I ran out of the school. The yard duty almost caught me. I walked across the street and kept on walking. I don't care where I go. I just want to be alone.(rhyms am I right) Car horns blaring, people talking on the phone, old women walking. Some kids from the near by elementary school were out already. Some skipped along home. Some raced home. I miss being in elementary school. You had it easy. You didn't turn in an assignment you can turn it in later. The teachers were the nicest people of all.

But right at the front of the school I see this little girl crying. I felt bad so I went over.

"Um hi I'm Sarah are you okay? " She looked up at me. Tears streaked her face. "Uh my mommy says not to talk to weirdos, young men or old men." Geez thanks mom. "Hey I'm not a weirdo. I'm from the high school. Santa Susana." I sat down next to her on the curb. She looked at me with a questioning look. "You look old." She said sticking out her bottom lip. Well thanks child. "I'm not I'm actually fourteen." Her eyes bugged out of her head. "That's a high number." I giggled. "So what's your name? " She looked at me curiously. "Well I'm not supposed to talk to strangers. But you're nice so okay. I'm Eloe." I smiled. That's a cute name. "Hi Eloe so how old are you?" She smiled and held up her right hand showing all five of her little fingers. "I'm five. You see. One, two, three, four, five." She said counting her fingers. She's so cute. "So why are you crying Eloe?" Her smile fell. "I'm sad because my mommy's not here yet." She started crying even more. I put my arm around her and let her cry on my shoulder. After for what seemed like two minutes I let her go. "What time was your mommy supposed to pick you up?" She thought about it. She even tapped her chin while doing that. "Well when I am in the classroom and since I can't tell time yet the teacher has a clock that shows big numbers. And when the bell rings it shows big numbers. I think the numbers are twelve zero zero." She looked up at me hopefully. I took out my phone and checked the time. It was 12:39! "Eloe you have been out here for a really long time." She put down her head. "Yeah. And I'm hungry." I didn't want to leave her here. "Well there is a Walmart near here do you want me to take you." She looked up at me and smiled. "Yes please Sarah." I stood up and I put my hand out for her. She took it and got up also. We barely walked three steps when she stopped. "What happened?" I looked down at her. "Wait. Do you drive a white van with candys and puppies inside? " I can't believe she said that. It was too funny. "Ha. I'm not old enough to drive Eloe." She smiled. "Oh okay." And we left off to Walmart.

Half way to Walmart I see a car speeding towards the school. Then out of nowhere a car coming from the right side of the street crashed into the drivers side of the car. There was a scream. Metal crunching and a car turned over. I blocked Eloes eyes from it all. She removed my hand and pointed at the turned over car. The car that was speeding towards the school. "Hey. That car looks like my mommy's car." Her bottom lip out. Ph no. Oh please no. "Uh Eloe what is your moms name? " She thought about it. And that little finger tapping her chin. "My mommy's name is Lorena Wheatcroft." Oh thank the lord she knew her name. "Okay Eloe stay right here do not move. If anyone comes up to you yell out my name as hard as you can okay." She nodded and looked a bit frightened. So I brought her to the side of the sidewalk farthest from the street and had her stand there. Then I ran to the over turned car. The street was packed with cars. I kneeled down next to the drivers window and looked inside. There was woman. And blood all over her face. The window was gone so I can see if she's alright. "Can you hear me ma'am?" Her eyes barely opened. "Y-yes." Her voice was hoarse and barely a whisper. "I'm Sarah Perez. What is your name." I heard sirens in the distance. "My name is Lorena Wheatcroft." Oh no. "Lorena what happened?"
"I was let out late from work. I couldn't go pick up my daughter Eloe. So I was speeding towards the school when a car came by and hit me." I looked back at Eloe who was on the sidewalk staring at me she waved at me and I waved back. Poor girl.
"Lorena I saw that your daughter was alone at the school. So I decided to sit by her and make sure that she was alright. She was hungry so I decided to take her to Walmart. We were half way there when I saw the accident. I just want to tell you that your daughter is safe okay. She kind of smiled. "Thank you Sarah. My poor baby girl. Can I see her. Is she here with you?"
"Yes she is. She's on the sidewalk." I moved over to the side so she can see Eloe. "Oh my baby girl." Eloe looked over. Once she saw her mom she walked closer to the curb. "Mommy" I could barely hear her say it. "Eloe get back I said stay over by the wall!" She was off of the curb and right on the street. "Mommy!" She yelled. She ran over. But there was a car coming. The man was on his phone. He wasn't paying attention to Eloe. "Eloe!" I got up and ran as fast as I could to her. She stopped in the middle of the street and looked over at the car. She screamed. I got over to her just in time. I pushed her out of the way. After, all I could see was the sky darkening and Eloe screaming my name. The last thing I heard was Eloe say "Sarah please don't die."
