Caleb's P.O.V.

When the class clock struck 2:00, I physically grabbed Tabby's arm and ran across campus to the small Culinary Arts building. Tabby screamed for me to slow down but I could barely hear her, much less feel her clawing up and down my arm in an attempt to make me follow her words.

I slowed down to a trot near the building and finally heard the string of profanities following me. "Idiot! Bastard! Inconsiderate bitch! My shoes- STUPID!" I turned around and checked out Tabby's shoes. She was wearing Converse today. Durable enough. I helped her up, as she was lying on the floor yelling at me, and she took the chance and began pounding my chest.

"Don't ever do that to me again!" she hissed.

"Yeah, yeah. I was just starving. Didn't eat much at lunch." I lied and laughed it off. Tabby seemed to accept that excuse and just punched me once more and led me to our Culinary Arts room. Miss Rose and any other students weren't inside, so we took the best seats: up front, middle row. They were tables for 2 so obviously Tabby and I shared it. Other students streamed in within ten minutes and began joking about my "quick escape". I just gave them the same excuse and waved them off.

2:15

Where was she? I was getting anxious for no reason. I didn't even know if Joey and Madison were lying to me and got me hyped for nothing.

I began tapping on my desk with my finger. This could not be happening. Why would a teacher be a minute late for her first day with our class? I shared my observations to Tabby. She shrugged. "Maybe she got scared away by all the boys flirting with her." So Tabby did know that the new teacher was supposedly hot. I nodded and began accepting her words. That could have happened.

*CRASH!* I heard metal pots and plastic spoons hit the floor outside our room. I jumped from my seat and ran outside. A tall teacher was sprawled under many kitchen utencils. I began stacking all of them. and handing them to her. "Thank you..."

"Caleb," I said, smiling.

"Thank you Caleb," Miss Rose responded, also smiling. But it seemed for a different reason. I couldn't put the word on it. Was it mockery? No, a teacher wouldn't be mean to a student she doesn't even know.

When I finished stacking, I offered to take half of it to prevent her previous mistake. She took it generously and we walked back to a silent classroom. I placed my materials on the desk and hurried back to a seething Tabby. I guess she didn't like me helping the new teacher.

"Well class, as you can see, I might be the clumsiest teacher at Oaksville High," Miss Rose joked. Laughs filled the room.

"Well, except for Mr. George," a student added.

"Or so I've been told," she retorted, making everyone laugh again. She situated herself on top of her desk. "Well, let's get back to business. Today, we will be making chocolate fondue! One of the simplest dishes to make, but also the messiest, fondue originates from the Swiss where-" Miss Rose realized that she spoke too much and blushed. "-but who cares! Have one person from each table grab a small pot, a spoon, and a measuring cup up here. Caleb," I looked up. "Help me pass the chocolate to each table. They each get two bars."

Miss Rose handed me a separate bowl filled with chocolate bars and smiled mischieviously, like we shared a secret no one knew about. Thankfully, Tabby was up by the front desk gathering materials and didn't notice. Miss Rose also began passing out cream to each table.

I quickly finished passing the chocolate out and sat down for instructions. I took the extra time and began looking at Miss Rose across the room.
