You wake upon an island. You're nor sure how you got there, or who The Boy lying next to you is. You're not really sure of anything right now. The boy looks towards you revealing dark eyes and hair, like shifting shadows. He emits Power, Justice and Eternity. You ask where you are and his reply is "somewhere In Between". This confuses you but you decided not to ask in between where. You decide instead to search the island and find that it consists of the beach where you woke up and jungle behind it. On your return journey a Creature jumps out at you. Your arms automatically rise to protect your face and you feel sharp claws rip into the flesh of your arm. You stumble back but its already lost interest in you and has found something more interesting further beyond your sight. You move slightly closer so as to see what has caught the Creatures attention and you see The Boy being circled by it. You walk closer not really thinking and the Creature's eyes meet yours. You are shocked to see your emotions reflected there. Pain and suffering swim to the surface, emotions you know to well.
The Creature leaps to you again. You plan on staying where you are; Death is surly easier than Life? When at the last second you move to the side. Confusion crawls over you as to why you moved aside. You put it down to the fact that you wouldn't want to leave The Boy alone. You both run back to the beach and the Creature is never seen again.
When your bare feet touch the sand you immediately fall into a slumber filled with many strange visions. When you wake you see that The Boy is already awoken and you wonder weather The Boy ever slept at all. You dismiss these thoughts while you discuss the days actions. You decide on exploring the heart of the island. While walking you recall parts of your previous life. You remember disliking Life and constantly feeling alone. You recall making a stone wall around your inner thoughts so as to protect Them as well as you.
After a while your thoughts are interrupted when you come across a cave. Inside the cave you find a pale hairless Wounded Thing. It is bruised and broken. Both disgust and sorrow fill you and you imagine this is how you look on the inside of those walls. The Boy pulls you behind a rock where you observe. A mouse scurries along and sniffs the Wounded Thing. The Wounded Thing immediately lashes out and curls into a protective ball. The small mouse climbs on top of the Wounded Thing. Eventually the Wounded Thing looks out at the mouse. When their eyes meet the little mouse begins to cry and golden tears wash over the Wounded Thing. At first the Wounded Thing gasps in pain but then the bruises start to heal and blood runs back into cuts. It's limbs rejoin and fur grows. Where the Wounded Thing lay, now stands a graceful bear, astounded that one mouse could care for it so much. You are glad that it has healed. When you return to the beach you yet again sleep in riddles of dreams.
In one of these dreams The Boy takes your hand. His hand is cold and unearthly. He tells you you can go back and start your life afresh. After this dream you fall into a deep sleep with nothing to dream. You awake in your room. There is blood along your arms and a stain on the sheets. You think for a long time of Life, In Between and Death. You can picture Death as a Boy, cold, colourless and unearthly. You want to meet Death again bit your still not sure you want to leave Life. You sit up on the bed and take a thin razor blade from a shaver. It is sharp as claws and could break down walls as strong as stone. You cry but your not sure why and through the tears your blood looks golden as the razor blade passes through skin, losing enough blood to son be unconscious. You cry and watch as your life begins to drain out of your open walls. You watch as a single tear can heal or destroy. And you wait until you are reunited with The Boy who is Death and you are on a beach. You're neither alive not dead, must somewhere In Between.
