Present
I think I've found the one I'm going to marry. HIs name is Aaron. We've been dating for two years. He understands me. We go at the same pace. He tells me I love him, and I tell him that I love him back. He's my other half, my significant other. He's another door that opened up in my life.
And I walked through it.
Past
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, my face red.
Aaron turned around. "Hey, Gabi."
I shut the door and silently laughed to myself. I was laughing of embarrassment, for I had just walked in on Aaron...
...In the bathroom.
"Um, Gabi?"
I looked up, startled. I had been sitting outside the bathroom door. And Aaron was talking to me, now.
"Oh... hey, Aaron," I replied awkwardly. "Um... did you wash your hands?"
Present
Aaron smirked at me. "Hey, Gabi... did you wash your hands?"
I laughed. "You're mocking me. And for your information, I did wash my hands." I had just walked out of the bathroom. It was our fifth year anniversary (I know, a long time).
"I made a reservation for The Waterfall at 5:00," Aaron told me.
I smiled. "That's good."
Past
"I think I have to go now," I said softly. "So, um, see you later, I guess."
Aaron grabbed my arm. "No, stay. I want to get to know you better."
Present
We walked hand in hand as he took me back to my house.
"I'll see you at five, Aaron."
Then he held me in his arms as we shared a kiss.
Past
"Well, I have a little sister named Jackie," I said.
"I have a little brother. His name is John," Aaron informed me.
"Oh."
Present
"How was your date?" Jackie asked me once I walked through the doorway.
I sighed. "Flawless. He's picking me up at five."
Jackie crinkled her nose. "Two dates in one day? You sound like a player."
I shook my head. "There's a difference between having two dates with different guys on the same day, and two dates with the same guy on the same day."
"Sure," Jackie replied, not believing me.
"You'll understand when you find love." I sighed again.
"You're turning all lovey-dovey. That's my cue to leave." So Jackie went upstairs to her room and closed the door.
Past
"Look, I really need to get home. My mom's probably waiting for me," I told Aaron.
He reluctantly got up. "I'll walk you home. You never know what happens on these streets."
I didn't really know what he meant, but didn't bother to question him.
We got to know even more about each other on the way home.
But once we actually did reach my house, Jackie came running up to me.
"Gabi, you're back home!" she cried. Then she glanced at Aaron. "And who's the boy?"
She was in second grade, where there were still "cooties."
"A friend," I said. Aaron looked at me and smiled.
Present
"More than a friend," I muttered, thinking back of the past. "My soul mate."
