I always wanted a dog. Ever since my friend Sophia at school got a Labrador puppy for her 5th birthday! But my favourite would be German shepherds. Every birthday wish would be for a puppy or another pet, my Christmas wish list was to receive a puppy from Santa. Years would go with me wishing for one at any celebration. Today is my birthday again, but I have given up on receiving a dog.

"Caitlin you can open your eyes now!" My mother told me excitedly. I opened my eyes to find a huge box on the floor next to Sophia's present, she brought me a beautiful floral dress that I wanted alongside the dog i was still waiting for.
I screamed, while tearing the paper off the box.
"Thanks mum!" I hugged her and lifted the lid with both hands. I sighed softly, thanks I told my mother with a fake smile. My mother decided to buy me a huge makeup kit for my birthday instead. Every year would be either hair accessories or the same.
Sophia knows how much I have been wanting a dog for my birthday... but I guess dreams don't come true. When my mum and dad left to the kitchen to cut the cake, Sophia tried to comfort me.
"It's ok, I'm sure you would get one next year?" I nodded and she wrapped her arms around me. I smiled in hope.
