"So did you tell parents yet?" My best friend Vanessa asked, while we were face-timing.

"Tell them what?" I asked.

She scoffed, "About the whole CalArts scholarship of course!"

"Oh yeah. I told them both everything and they're totally okay with it."

"Really?!" She squealed, "Oh my god I'm so excited. When you come over here I'll have your whole room set up and we can-"

"No Vanessa, I'm just kidding." I rolled my eyes, "What parents would love to want their daughter move all the across the country, alone."

"Well my parents didn't care.." She mumbled.

"That's because your older brother lives there, and he's married." I reminded her, "Don't they check up on you like every week?"

"Yeah," she smiled, "and they always bring brownies before they come over!" She clasped her hands together causing me to do another eye roll, "Okay, that's not the point, but can you at least tell her you got a scholarship. Then she'll see how smart you are and maybe change their minds."

"Yeah, but that not the problem."

"Then what is?"

I muttered, "You already know what it's about."

At first she wore a confused look but then her eyes widened in realization. She looked at me and her face softened, "Are they still on about, her?" I nodded my head, "But- but that's old now, I mean it's alright. Nothing would happen like that ever again. Just please ask them, I miss my best friend."

I shook my head and tried to get the old horrific memory out of my head, and put on a smile, "Alright. I guess I can ask her. But if they say no, it's not my fault you moved to California to go too your college."

She playfully rolled her eyes, "Alright, now you go talk to her. Tell me everything later, bye!"

"Kay, bye." I ended the call and shut my laptop down.

I took in a deep breath and went downstairs. I mean it's not that bad right? I'm just my mom's youngest and now- only daughter wanting to go to California for college even after a horrible incident happened, leaving her all alone in New York, by herself.

"Hey mom, can I talk to you about something?" I headed over to her desk, where she was on the computer.

She looked at me and stopped typing, "Is it something I'd like to hear? Because I'm kinda busy right now."

"Well it- it's something you might not really like to hear." I stuttered. "But I mean, part of it is good.."

"Alright, tell me the good news you have."

"Okay," I started, "uhm- I got a scholarship for CalArts. They send me an email."

"I said tell me the good news, why'd you tell me bad news?"

My mouth dropped, "So you're not happy with me getting a scholarship?!" Most parents- wait- every parent would be beyond happy to see their child get a scholarship.

"No, no." She answered, "I'm happy with you getting a scholarship but to CalArts? Why couldn't it be somewhere in New York."
