Chapter 1: Death Strikes

I sat up straight in my bed. Something was very wrong. It took me 2 minutes to realize the agonizing pain in my stomach. I wanted to scream for my mom, but when I opened my mouth, only a weezing cough came out. I grabbed my stomach and held it. I pulled the covers off and saw spots of blood. My throat tighten. I pulled my legs out from underneath the covers and put them on the floor. I headed to my door. I gripped the old doorknob and collasped before I could get out the door. The pain was unbearable.
"Mom..." I whispered. I knew she wouldn't hear me. I need to scream. "Mom... Mom... Mom!" I finally managed. I closed my eyes as another shock of pain rippled through my body. I opened my eyes a little, just in time to see a figure in a long pink nightgown bend down next to me. A hand touched my cheek, then my stomach. It was cold, but felt reassuring.
"Michelle! What's happened?" My mom's voice rang in my ears. She picked me up and wrapped an arm around my waist to steady me. She helped me into the bathtub and turned on the water. Blood ran down the bottom of the tub and into the drain. Tears fell from my eyes. My mom handed my some soap and help me take my gown off. I pulled my legs towards me, as close as they'd go. My belly was huge. "Michelle? I think you almost had a miscarriage..." My mom's voice trailed off. I picked up the bar of soap and looked at it. So simple, yet it did so much. My mom started humming a song she'd sing when I was little. I stood up and turned off the water. Pulling back the curtains, I remember my appointment in the afternoon. I'm suppose to find out the sex of the babty.
"Mom?" I squeaked.
