The ride to the lab was quiet, save the music softly playing on the radio. Though you had been gone for months, a lot of the popular music sounded the same as it had before Christmas. Sans sat beside you in the rear passenger seat of Alphys' white Beetle while Undyne sat in front.

"I-I hope you don't mind the c-clutter when we get there." Alphys said with a small laugh. "I've been busy with new energy source experiments, and Mettaton and Undyne are never home to help me spiffy up."

"I tried to sort the blueprints, but the paper some of them are written on is kinda delicate." Undyne sighed. "Too delicate for me, anyways."

"I-it's okay, Undyne."

"So, if you're going to be testing my magic," you said, watching the number of houses passed slowly dwindle down, "wouldn't the earthquakes damage your home?"

"I h-have a testing field we can use! That's why Sans is coming along- if things go wrong, he can use his magic to control the impact."

"Yeah, heh, I'm a regular shock absorber." Sans smiled at you from his seat, and you smiled back, feeling reassured. Something else, however, was bothering you.

"Sans," you spoke quietly, "why was Frisk... Hiding from me?"

His eyes flickered out for a second before he blinked and shrugged casually, with his trademark smile. "Kiddo was s'posed to be in school. Guess she just didn't wanna get caught."

You arrived at a house far off into the country, though its design was smooth, industrial, and white. Alphys entered a code on her phone which opened the gates for the vehicle before pulling into the garage on the right side of the home. You stepped out and followed the scientist to the rest of the home, and you were brought to a large, open concept living space with white couches and a sleek black coffee table. The windows had been tinted outside, and you could see they reached from the floor to the ceiling and let in a natural, bright light form the sun outside.

"This is incredible." You breathed.

"Th-thank you." Alphys said with a smile. "Most of the design was Mettaton's idea, but I built the lab downstairs myself. Now, we can head down-"

"Not so fast, Alphy!~" A familiar voice the commanded attention filled the living space and a robotic figure began to descend the stairs near the kitchen. Mettaton's eyes were casually on his phone before he looked over to you and the others with a devilish smirk. "I've received a very important message from the queen herself, that today is a very important day."

"H-huh?" Alphys fumbled for her phone and began swiping furiously. "I-I don't remember h-her mentioning today w-was a holiday.."

"Oh, dear Alphy, don't you know? Today is Kalia's birthday!"

"It's not a big deal, Mettaton." You said, waving your hand dismissively. "I haven't bothered to celebrate my birthday in years, and we have more important-"

"NONSENSE!" Mettaton rushed to you, pulling you from the others quickly and making his way to the stairs. "Everyone should celebrate a day like this! Why, imagine if no one celebrated the day I was brought to the world! How dull the world would be!"

"Jeez!" Undyne groaned. "Weren't you just on TV? Why are you even home right now?"

"When I got the queen's message, I sent my assistant to take over for me while I rushed home; Anyone can interview a basket of lost puppies, but celebrating a birthday is a difficult talent!"

"You really think this can wait, Al?" Undyne whispered.

"Sh-she hasn't had any episodes, yet." Alphys whimpered back. "S-so maybe if we stay clear of the city..."
