Adrenaline Rush

My heart pounds,

Within my chest,

Just as a racehorse's hooves pound on the track.

My breath gathers speed,

As an airplane taking a nosedive.

Epinephrine pumps through my veins

As though there were someone pumping for water.

My eyes could not seem to focus;

My feet flew as through they had wings.

The rush!

The excitement!

Step by step,

Foot by foot,

Even as I took each stride,

More adrenaline ran to my aid and warded away my pain.

Sweat dripped down my temples,

Just in the manner of the drips from

A melting ice sickle.

My muscles tore through the pain,

Just as I would do when I crossed that tape.

The half way mark had gone

And I was still a' going strong!

It was hours in that my worst nightmare had come!

The adrenaline was done helping me.

Seconds rewound.

Pain gripped my sides.

My heart pounded within my ears.

Legs like jello tried to hold me up.

But just as well,

It did me no harm

Since I was crossing the tape at that moment.

But alas, tag has no tape

And no first place.

The tape was only a figment of my mind.
