I fumed in my new costume, uniform, whatever. Bruce wanted me to meet the members of the Young Justice team as they called it. I couldn't believe they were making me do this. It would put them in danger; my scent was too strong!
The costume itself wasn't all that bad. It had barely any sleeves, so I wore a leather jacket over it to hide any monster fighting scars I had. It was mostly black, with a few ocean blue highlights and a mask with sea-green edges. The suit itself was flexible and I could hide at various weapons in it. It also had a hood.
I had added my gold satchel which I spray painted black. It had infinite storage and was a birthday gift from Poseidon, my father. I fiddled with my ring, which became my sword, Hurricane. Like Percy's pen/sword, it always came back to me.
I was waiting for Batman's say so to go through the zeta tube thingie. Eventually, a little button buzzed and I walked through the purple portal.
On the other side, there were a few Leaguers and the team. I cocked an eyebrow and tilted my head slightly.
"This is Thálassa."
Yup, that's my 'hero' name. It means 'sea' in Greek. Batman put a hand on my shoulder. "She's going to join and train the team."
My eyes widened.
"What?!?" I asked. I wasn't the only one that was surprised. The Leaguers also looked surprised and looked at me suspiciously. "I thought you said meet them!!!"
"You." I wheeled towards Dick. "You were in on this, weren't you?" Dick, well Robin now, shook his head, smiling mischievously. I looked at the other people in the room. The Flash was eating popcorn, like KF. The others were watching us like someone would watch the Stolls being beaten up by Annabeth after putting a spider in the Athena Cabin. Sorry, ADHD.
I sighed. "I'll let it go this time because Percy doesn't let me threaten people when people I just met are around."
"So, who exactly are you?" a girl in green asked. Her blond hair was tied in a high ponytail and she held her bow warily. She stood next to Green Arrow. His protégé. "And do you usually threaten people?"
"He adopted the two of us. We're siblings and we've got the same mom but different dads." I explained. "And no, just when I'm irritated with them or someone else." She nodded.
"Ah."
A flash came from the zeta thing. A voice called, "Red Arrow, B-6" A boy, about 18 years old, appeared. He was handsome, I suppose, ginger, tall and muscled. He was dressed mostly in red and black. He scanned me, as if trying to read me. In a rather arrogant voice, he said, "And you are?"
"Too pretty for you." I said.
"That's Thálassa, my half-sister." Robin said after a period of us glaring at each other.
A green-skinned girl with red hair, probably the Martian, walked, well, floated, up to me. "Hi, I'm M'gann! That's Superboy, also known as Connor," she pointed a stoic boy with black hair and a black shirt with a Superman symbol. "And that's Aqualad, Kaldur," she indicated to a dark skinned boy with blond hair and weird tattoos. "Zatanna," a pale girl with black hair and a magician's outfit waved awkwardly. "and Kid Flash." she pointed to Wally.
She seemed alright, but she smiled too much. I made an effort to smile back, but I probably failed miserably.
"She will train the team and Red Arrow." Batman said.
"WHAT!!!" We both shouted. "I don't want to be trained by some 15-year-old!" He exclaimed.
"Firstly, I'm 17, practically 18. Second, I don't want to train a corpse headed worm, that..." I have to admit, I cussed a bit and exclaimed more that one curse in Greek. I know a lot from spending a lot if time near Clarisse from the Ares Cabin after she lost at Capture-The-Flag, trying to calm her down. They, of course, didn't understand a single word of it, but they could probably tell it wasn't any good. It really wasn't.
"Enough!" Batman finally stopped my tirade. I stopped.
"That was fun." I said kinda awkwardly. In Romanian, I said, "You know my scent will attract monsters and they don't have the means to protect themselves."
"You'll protect us, big sis!" Robin said confidently. "Besides, I still have the knife you gave me." I had to smile at that.
Nearly four years ago, when Dick first became Robin and I had just been claimed a daughter of Poseidon, I was at Wayne Manor for a few days and I gave Dick a Celestial Bronze knife just in case we were attacked. I taught him how to use it and showed him how it turned into one of his wing-dings, his modified version of the batarangs, and told him it would only harm monsters.
I sighed and say in English, "Fine, I'll join. But, we're going to do things my way. You do what I say, if I say anything. Kaldur'ahm is still your team leader, but if there's something big, you do what I say, alright?" I send them all my supreme 'you-will-do-as-I-say-or-I'll-kill-you' Think of the Batglare, then add Percy's deluxe, 'I'll-kill-you-later' glare, then multiply it by 5. Then you get my glare.
Needless to say, they nod quickly, including the mentors. I grin and say, "Great!"**********
"So, Thálassa, can you give us a name, or is the Bat forbidden you from telling us your real name?" Red Arrow asks arrogantly.
"He has," I say. "So, call me Maria. It goes with the name Thálassa because that Thalassa means sea in Greek and Maria means sea in Latin which are pretty similar languages in a way. Of course, that could be my real name and I'm just saying it's not my real name." I pause, out of breath. "You gotta name, Red?" I say.
He hesitates before saying, "Roy."
KF then says, "Wally West." I nod, since I already know and he knows that I know and he knows that's not my real name.
"So, how long have you been Batman's partner?" M'gann questions as we walk to the kitchens.
"I'm not." I say, grabbing an apple, sitting on the counter and taking a bite. "I usually live with my brother in Long Island, New York. Well, sometimes in Manhattan. Occasionally, I go to LA to hang out with some friends. And I've also lived in a few orphanages here and there. Though Virginia was also nice." I said between bites of the apple. I highly doubt they were following what I was saying. They were nodding anyway. Except for Roy, he was scoffing.
"If you kept jumping around from place, how are you going to know anything to teach us?" I glared at the archer. "You guys have some kind of arena or something?" I say. They nod and we head back to the training platform.
I take out my gold satchel, two whips, various knives, a lot of batarangs were lended to me, two fans, and taser, leaving my only weapon Hurricane in ring form. They seemed rather surprised and frightened by the amount of concealed weapons. They're even more surprised when I point the Red and say, "You and I, go up against each other." He nods, suspicious and goes to take off his quiver when I shake my head. "You keep your weapons." I say.
"Do you have a death wish?!?"KF shouts. I shake my head no. "I've done this before, it's fun." I smirk. Red shrugs. "If that's how you want it," he says as he smirks. I smirk as well.~~~~~~~~
This is one of the times ADHD really helps. Like, seriously. I was aware of literally everything. The way Red kept pulling arrows, the fact he had a knife on his leg. I even saw Robin and Wally betting.
"Boys, don't bet on us." I said while expertly cartwheeling out of the way of another arrow.
"How did she know we were betting?" asked Wally. "My sister is all seeing and all knowing. She can even tell when I ate a snack while she was at the mall!"
"I'll take that as a compliment, little brother. Come on Red, you can do better than that!" I laughed. "Red, you're gonna be beaten by a girl!" I taunt him. Out of frustration, he finally threw the knife. I easily dodged and grabbed the knife from the wall where it had gotten stuck.
'Finally!' I think and run straight towards Red. His eyes widen and then narrow behind his mask as he abandons his bow and attempts blocks my punches and kicks. He fails, big time. I punch him a few times and easily block his punches. Then, I grab him and judo flip him. I'm on top of him, with his knife pressed against his throat. His breath smells minty. I can see him perfectly. His strong jaw line... Why am I thinking this?
"Dead," I say.
I stand up and give him a hand. His hand is calloused and rough. Really, why am I thinking this?
I look up to see Black Canary, Green Arrow, Superman, The Flash, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Artemis, Robin, Aqualad, Superboy, Miss Martian, and Kid Flash staring at us. Well, mostly me.
"What? Do I have something on my face? You ought to close your mouth, you'll catch flies." I tell them.
"How... How did you do that?" Superman asks. "Roy is a very good fighter."
I shrug.
"He's hotheaded and arrogant. I used that against him." I say.
"Still, no normal person would be able to do that." Black Canary says, narrowing her eyes. "I'm not normal." I say, returning Red his knife and putting back my weapons.
"What?" KF asks.
"I have two learning disorders." I say, avoiding their eyes and putting the taser back in its holster.
"Oh." he mutters awkwardly.
"Now," I say, trying to brush it off. "I'm going to go yell at my brother for agreeing to letting me stay with you and join this thing. Then, I'll be back and we will finish this talk mister." I say, narrowing my eyes toward the Bat. He didn't look concerned.
I head toward the bay doors. KF zooms in front off and says, "Sweetie, the zeta tubes are the other way." "I'm not zeta-ing. Don't call the older girl that can kill you twenty ways before you can say 'Sweetie', sweetheart," I sass. They're obviously confused so they follow me as I head outside. I close the door behind me and hide behind a bush and run off.
I run for a bit and, after I'm sure they're not following, I send a ear-splitting whistle. I focus on my pegasus, Dusk. Dusk is pure black, like his older brother, Percy's pegasus, Blackjack. Also like his brother, he's obsessed with donuts.
«Hey boss!» Dusk whinnies. Yes, I speak horse. Deal with it.
"Dusk, we need to go! The team will try to follow me. And I have to go yell at Percy! Come on!"
«Sure thing boss.» As we flew towards Manhattan, Dusk said one more vital thing. «Can I have a donut for this?»
