My eyes flit around this small corner of the Box, eagerly seeking out the hiding places I know so well. They pass over a small grove of trees, but a flash of pink draws them back. Smiling, I slowly tiptoe my way towards the trees, making as little noise as possible. I reach the grove and jump out to face my friend Ella, shouting a loud, "Found you!" as I do.
"Finally Faith, took you long enough!" She says, giggling.
"Whatever. You're just good at hiding."
"No, you're just bad at looking." She giggles again and I glare.
"I hate you sometimes."
"Nah, you love me all the time." I glare at her again, because it's true and she knows it.
"Okay it's my turn to hide now, count to 100." I turn around and run, but glance back after a few paces to check that Ella is covering her eyes with her hands. She's not.
"Hey! Eyes covered!" I call, and she pokes her tongue out at me before covering them.
I run past the trees and past the lake into the edges of the small town inside the Box. Looking around, I assess the area, trying to decide on an original hiding spot, preferably with a good vantage point over the town.
Not seeing anything that suits my interests, I pass through the town, passing through the main area until I reach the school.
Seeing a gap in the fence I made a while back I smile and jog over, ducking through and into the school. Sprinting across the oval, not wishing to be seen as the school is out-of-bounds during the weekends, I reach the demountables of the Blue block and run in between two. Satisfied with my spot I turn and face the oval again, but not before ducking behind a wheelie bin.
After watching for a few minutes to make sure she didn't cheat and follow me straight away, I sink to the ground. But hearing a noise behind me whips my head around, and brings me back to full alert.
Watching the back of the demountable I stand up slowly, wanting to be ready in case of an emergency. Not really knowing what to expect, but impatient and disliking waits I call out a soft "Hello?" which fades away quickly in the small gap between demountables.
