They were out of breath when they finally were able to reach the Creature House entrance. Aleks was still clinging onto Eddie, but he felt his mind becoming foggy and it was starting to become increasingly harder to keep his eyes open as the minutes went by. He could hear the Puerto Rican’s fast, steady heartbeat as his head lay against his friend’s heaving chest. It was actually quite soothing and, at least for a few minutes, he had forgotten about his pain and that they were being chased by a desperate hoard of Infected. He just wanted to stay there and sleep.
Eddie started to notice Aleks drifting off when they were finally safe within the vicinity of the house. With a panicked filled voice he urged his friend to try and stay awake, “Aleks, you have to stay awake. Don’t fall asleep, alright?”
“But Eddie...I’m tired...” He murmured, annoyance filling his tone of voice. The brunette didn’t understand; why shouldn’t he sleep?
"I know but if you go to sleep you'll miss...You'll miss...uuh...You'll miss all the fun!" It was a horrible excuse and he knew it, but it was the only thing he could think of. He just hoped Aleks was too out of it to notice.
"...Fun?" The brunette mumbled. "...What kind of fun...?" Was this sort of fun worth staying up for?
"Um...Whatever you want!” Eddie was panicking; he knew that, with a wound like Aleks’, falling asleep could mean death. He had to keep the other awake somehow.
However Aleks wasn’t buying it and it was getting much harder to resist the chasm that threatened to consume him. “...I just...Want to sleep...” He murmured, feeling bogged down and sleepy. He couldn’t stay awake much longer.
Hazily voices drifted to him through the darkness that was slowly consuming him. “...-leks...awake…”
“...going on?”
“...-ly shit…”
“...keep him…”
“...Eddie what…”
Aleks couldn’t focus on them any longer, the voices, the words; they were becoming jumbled; only bits and pieces being comprehended at once. One urgent voice pierced the grogginess, but he couldn’t understand it. He only could identify how worried and panicked it sounded. A small smile tugged at the edges of his pale lips, he felt...Peaceful. “...I’m...fine…” he mumbled in response to that one panicked voice; and that was the last he remembered before he was swallowed whole.
--
“Aleks, Aleks wake up!” Eddie gently tried to shake him awake but the Russian didn’t respond.
