Chapter Five: First Day of School

Elle’s P.O.V.

I had school today, which did not make me happy. I had gotten a good amount of sleep last night. I wasn’t very tired in the morning. Then I remembered Mike.

He’s so persistent. I only told him I’d see him at school so I didn’t hurt his feelings. In a small town like this a new kid would be a rare thing. I wish I wouldn’t have all the attention.

Maybe I won’t. Today I had on a purple graphic tee that said LOVE LIFE and a crochet speckled dark purple knit beanie. I had on a plain purple scarf and solid purple colored leggings. As you can tell my favorite color today is purple.

My favorite color changes by day, and I tend to wear that color. I had an Adriana Fleece gray and blue jacket with a pair of light tan Uggs. I did my hair in loose curls and my makeup was a purple shade. After that I was ready to go. I walked down the stairs and saw everyone was ready. “You’ll be riding with Alice, Jasper, and me, if that’s okay with you.” Edward told me.

“Sure.” I shrugged. “Are you hungry?” Esme asked. “No, but I’m ready to get this show on the road.” I told her. “Okay. Alice, Jasper, are you ready?” Esme called.

Moments later Alice and Jasper came down the stairs. “Yeah, just had to finish.” Alice told her. I walked with Edward out the front door. I was nervous for today. I don’t like to be the center of attention. “Why are you nervous?” Jasper asked me.

“I don’t like attention. I hope I don’t get any with being new.” I answered. Who am I kidding. I’m the shiny new toy, as some would put it. I hope there’s another shiny new toy so I don’t get all the attention. I got in the backseat with Alice.

Suddenly she got a distant expression. “Alice? Alice, are you okay?” I asked her. She didn’t respond. I shrugged it off. When she came out of it I had to say something. “Don’t you think it’s too early to daydream?” I asked her with a smile.

“Yeah, sorry. I do that a lot.” She apologized. “Don’t worry, I daydream all the time.” I sigh. Mostly it’s about my brother. I miss him. “Maybelle?!” Alice asked concerned. “You know what, I take back it being too early to daydream.” I told her.

“You kind of, like, zoned out on us there.” Alice told me. “Yeah. I was thinking of my brother.” I told her with a honesty ringing through my voice. “Oh.” Was all she said. I laid my head against the seat and waited to get to school.

We got there soon, thanks to Edward’s driving. “You drive crazy.” Is what I told him when we got out of the car. He chuckled. “But I”m not complaining because, I drive the same way.” I continued.

We had some time to kill so I pulled out my IPod and played one of my new favorite songs. All I’ve Ever Needed by Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed. I started to sing. Not to loud but not murmuring. I was using an inside voice.
