Gerard walked slowly into his room cradling his late grandfather’s favourite top hat. His grandfather used to tell him it was magic and could take you to different worlds or places in time; all you had to do was place the top hat on a flat surface and spin it.
Gerard’s family all taught grandfather was crazy, but Gerard always wanted the stories to be true and that is why he never believed his family.
Gerard placed the hat in the middle of the floor of his bedroom floor and sat cross legged next to it and sighed. ‘Am I really about to do this?’ he asked himself as he reached out of the hat, placing one hand on either side. Taking a deep breath he spun the hat. It wiped around in circles until it finally fell over on its side.
‘great, maybe grandfather was insane’ he thought as he stood up to get on his bed, but that was when a bunch of papers from his desk was flung across the room and the posters started to rip from the walls and his hair was swooped into his face so he couldn’t see a thing, then as if he weighed nothing, he was picked up by a small tornado and pulled down into the hat. The fall was long and the tunnel was made of clouds and had little clocks whizzing past, narrowly missing his face.
The tunnel opened up to a five metre drop to the concrete ground that was approaching him quickly.
With a loud thud, he landed and just lay there for a moment watching the clouds close again.
Sitting up and pulling himself to his feet he took in his surroundings. Gerard was standing in a deserted street covered in sand and old buildings that were falling apart. He had no idea where he was. He took a few steps before he heard the sound of dragging coming from behind him so he ran to the mouth of an ally way that was two metres away.
And that’s when he saw them. Tall skeletal creatures with skin pulled so tight you could see every bone in its body and its stomach was nonexistent. They had hunched backs and long arms with longer than normal fingers trailing along behind them and their faces where long with deep dark black holes with small glowing red dots for eyes and hanging mouths to show their long sharp teeth.
The creatures walked in jiggered jerking motions toward the centre of the city where the road had collapsed into a massive sinkhole.
The creatures surrounded the big hole and looked up to the sky.
Gerard couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He was freaking out on the inside but kept his composure.
The creatures starting making a screeching haunting sound that got louder the longer they screeched.
The sky opened up above them and started to swirl around and turn into storm clouds lighting cracked and connected with the ground, sending an electrical current to go through all the creatures causing them to grow in size. Gerard started to feel a pull on his body from behind but before he could do anything he was pulled up into a tornado and pulled back up into a tornado and pulled back through the cloudy tunnel, landing on his bed.
He stayed there stunned at what had just happened. He wasn’t sure he believed it. ‘that where those creatures?’ he thought as he rolled over, eventually falling into a deep sleep but still thinking of that happened that day
