So during the revolution 'American Revolution and it was actually after the revolution' Massachusetts had a ton of money to pay back so it was like, we're just gonna make all you citizens of this state pay a ton of cash to deal with our mess. So this group of people 'farmers' had this uprising against the system 'small uprising' And this Shay guy was leading them 'Daniel Shay, Revolutionary War veteran' and they took a fort 'armory' then they were shut down by the government and killed. Except for the main guy who ran off to another state. 'It was the state militia that put down the rebellion, and only some of the conspirators were executed. Shay fled to Vermont which at the time, wasn't a part of the Union, it was its own independent republic. It joined in 1791, four years after the end of Shay's Rebellion'
