The beating of wings alerted me to his presence even before his voice did... A quiet, steady sound, almost indistinguishable in the late evening rush of the central Tokyo rush.
Inconspicuously taking an alternative, longer route to my apartment, trying to corner my shadow in an empty place with no witnesses, I knew I was headed for trouble... But I didn't know how much trouble I had gotten myself into this time...
Reaching a dark alley I always tended to avoid, I had a brief thought of what a perfect horror movie setting this could be. Before I could dwell too long on it though, I remembered the task at hand and turned to face my assailant, ready for combat.
When I turned around and faced him, I was suddenly lost for words. He was definitely not a kidnapper; I was sure of that. There was an aura surrounding him, a strong yet subtle one. He was draped in a cloak- Only his eyes remained visible... And his eyes... The shone like twin emeralds in the darkness of the alley. Everything about him, everything was unnatural.
Especially the fact that he was raised three feet off the ground, suspended by long, smooth... Wings.
I was shocked speechless... He however, was not. From beneath the hood, he spoke, in a voice that can only be described as the murmur of darkness- if it had one.
'Alexis Dryen Star, today, you die. "
Once again, I had managed to get myself in a lot of trouble.
