Just look away, don't make eye contact and she will go away. They always go away if you ignore them. For a while anyways.
I continued to walk down the hallway that was quickly becoming empty, leaving me with the lonely soul. I quickened my steps into strides as I realized I was almost all alone, the soul watching me curiously. Her red hair cascaded down her back, her orange tank and blue short made me wonder if she was around my age. I shook the thought from my head as I slid into my last class of the day, biology.
Shuffling to the back of the room I slid into the seat near the corner right as the bell rang. Not five seconds later my best friends come rushing in, tripping over each other. I had to choke down on my laugh as Brittany came to sit next to me as Teddy had to pick up some papers he dropped. He jogged to come sit next to us as he plopped into the other seat on my other side. I couldn't wipe the smug grin off my face, "Finally, I'm here before you guys." I whispered. I ducked as they both made a move to smack me.
Teddy opened his mouth to stand up for himself but the teacher shushed him and started explaining the homework we have and letting us work on it in the rest of class. Instead of doing the assignment like I should have I just sat there talking to my friends about anything and everything. Brittany made a comment about the only two things that got cold during the winter were, polar bears and penguins.
I snorted as a girl got up and made her way to ask the teacher something in her short shorts and a tank top. "You forgot whores." I said and Teddy let out a sharp bark of laughter only turning the heads of a few. Brittany rolled her eyes making a funny face. I smirked looking at the classroom. My eyes wandered to an elderly woman standing next to one of the silent kids I knew that sat on the other side of the room. His name was Liam, he was always really quiet but he usually talked to me.
My eyes made contact with the elderly woman. She didn't look shocked, she didn't start talking, she just smiled at me. She put her hand on Liam's shoulder and I visibly saw him stiffen as if he could really feel her. I furrowed my eyebrows together. "Hey, I'll be right back." I told my friends as I went and sat next to Liam. Nobody sat by him really.
He looked at me, his jade green eyes wide. "What's on your mind?" I asked softly. Liam was one of my closest friends, he got me. Not all of me but he knew some pretty deep stuff. And I knew much about him. The fact that he was secretly gay didn't bother me one bit. I accepted him for it, I don't think he needs to be ashamed about it. Plus, that's all his grandmother wants, she wants him to not be afraid of it.
He shook his head, but after a pointed look from me he sighed, letting me win. "Just thinking about everything. Remember my grandmother?" I nodded.
"She just... she wanted me to accept it. She was the only one who accepted me except from you.' His eyes cast downward, his voice trailing off.
I observed him for a second, I took in his tired eyes and his mussed hair and casual clothes. I was about to say something sarcastic or smart assed but my brother came into the room telling the teacher we had to go. I raised my eye brow at his grim look. I grabbed my bag and told Teddy, Brittany and Liam to meet me at my house soon. They agreed and I had to leave.
In the silence of the hallway I asked Jake, my brother, what was going on.
"Ask dad." He said coldly.
I narrowed my eyes on him and his cold, harsh face softened a bit. My mind wandered as we walked to my dad's car. The truck brought a little tug at my lips. I've always loved that truck. But once I entered the truck and saw excitement in my dads eyes, the slight grin was wiped off of my mouth as the next words that came out of his mouth made my world crumble as much as it already has.
