Chapter 2: Drew

  When I first awoke, I saw nothing but white.
My head ringing, I decided to sit up.
Bad idea, pain shot all through my chest causing my to take a sharp intake of breath.
"Honey, I wouldn't do that," somebody said causing me to jump.
I turned my head around to be faced with what looked like a nurse in her mid twenties.
"W-where am I? Where's Drew, is he alright?" I asked my voice coming out barely a whisper.
"You are currently in the hospital, you have a few broken ribs and a concussion, you also fractured a few bones in your arm. You will have a cast.
She paused, getting up to check the machines beside me.
"Your neighbor told me you fell down the stairs is that true?" The nurse asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"Do you know why you fell? Like did you feel dizzy at all? Maybe had loss of vision?" She recommended.
"Yes, my sight went black and then I remember falling..." I stated.
After saying that she wrote something down on the clipboard she was currently holding.
"Honey do you think it was possible you had a panic attack?"
When she said those words all the events with my step father rushed back into my head, my mother was dead, my brother was hurt, and my step father is still out there. I felt as if my perfect world just crumbled to ashes.
"My step father,..." I mumbled.
"I'm sorry honey speak up."
"My step father he did this, he shot my brother..."
wait Drew is he alright?
"Oh my goodness! My brother is he alright?!" I asked for the second time.
After asking that question the nurses face turned pale and she no longer looked at me she looked at the ground.
"W-well is he?" I stammered.
When she finally looked up she had a sad expression on her face.
"Kira, sweety your brother is currently in surgery, so we won't know until he's out."
"What do you mean?" I asked as my voice cracked.
I wouldn't be able to live if my brother passed, he was there for my no matter what, he was my only friend, I don't know what I would do without him.
My hands grew sweaty with every passing second that I thought about my brother.
"This is a risky surgery for Drew, if it ends up being more complicated than expected, he could die."
