Chapter 6

Scoffing down my spaghetti and bacon Cody had made for me; I watched as he was giving me strange looks ever since getting back, looking at me like I was a freak or something.

Smiling back, playing all innocent as I did; maybe there was something wrong.

‘Is there something on my face’?

Cody chuckled, shaking his head, of course that would be the first thing I think of I was Vera.  ‘I’m just admiring your beauty’.

Scoffing, I turned away to face the wall as I heard Cody coming closer, pulling out the stool next to me at the counter.

‘Why were you so upset earlier, I know I could just ask Charlie but I was hoping to hear it from you first’?

Turning to face Cody, my eyes met his again, transfixed on how gentle his orbs looked compared to his usual Alpha self; his dark brown shaggy hair, always looking so neat and tidy; with clothes to match.

Sighing I knew he wasn’t going to give up until he found out what he wanted to know.  ‘I was banished from my own pack before coming here and Charlie just……how could say hit a nerve and I may have taken it too far and snapped at him’.

Cody chuckled expecting Charlie to have obviously said something that offended me; ‘which pack did you come from’?

Here it was the big question, it was only yesterday that I was refusing to tell this guy and somehow I was already willing to part with the information.  Time really seemed to move too fast as my change of heart was not something I envied.

‘I’m from the Crescent Pack………….’

Cody looked at me blankly for a minute before getting to his feet and walking off through the lounge room and what I thought was his office.

A little ticked off that he would just leave me, I followed his steps soon after; seeing Cody over at his computer as if intrigued by something.

‘So is that how you’re going to treat me?  Ask me heaps of questions then run off to do your own thing’.

Cody looked up for a second smiling, before gesturing for me to come over.  Stepping over behind his chair, he patted his lap for me to sit but I shook my head not letting this cocky Alpha get what he wanted.

On the computer screen was a map of the country of Canada with many areas labelled under a pack name.  Straight away looking up at Yellowknife, I saw my pack was under a different name, now occupying much more territory than it had before.

Tapping his finger to his lip and sighing, Cody looked through the names unable to find the pack I was speaking of until he stopped at Yellowknife, scratching his head seeming perplexed.

‘This pack took over a lot of smaller packs in this area about two years ago, so I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say your pack got overturned’.

Scowling I took this as a cue for me to talk more about my pack; I never realised the pack that was going to overthrow us was so big in size.

‘Believe what you want Cody; why do you think I didn’t go back’!

Snapping a bit at the end of my sentence, Cody would understand this was a touchy subject and he would back down and talk about something else.

Leaving the room, Cody soon caught up to me; grabbing onto my arm, thinking somehow his touch that made my wolf howl inside would make a difference.

‘Stop being so mad at me, what did I do to deserve so much hate’?

Turning to look back at him; really was it personal?  Pfffffft, I really wasn’t that angry with him, this was just my way of venting.  ‘Aside from bringing me here, it is not something you did but rather something someone else did that I cannot forget’.
