Chapter Twenty Five: Everybody Hurts.|~Louis~|
"Louis, your phone's ringing," Harry mumbled sleepily. I yawned and stretched my arms. We had all stayed at Heather and Fearne's with Emily. God, I had missed her so much.
"Hello?" I said groggily into the phone.
"Louis, it's Courtney," a sharp voice said back. Courtney, our terribly strict manager. That bitch.
"Hi Courtney, what's the haps?"
"You did not just say that," Harry moaned. I chuckled.
"Louis, this is serious!" Courtney snapped.
"What's up, then, Courtney?" I asked. I gestured to Harry to come listen too. He pressed his ears against my cheek to listen.
"That Emily girl," She sighed. "You two have to be done. Finite. Caput. Break up!"
"What?!" I exclaimed, my heart jolting with shock. "Why?!"
"She's losing you fans. She's in every magazine, she's going to get your career killed. Your fans are questioning your judgement. Mothers don't want their kids to like anything associated with her. She's more controversial than Miley. It's not love. Break up, Louis."
"Or what?" I challenged, feeling nary tears burn my eyes. How could she say that about Emily? How could she? I was going to punch her.
"Or nothing. But you'll flush your friends' careers down the toilet and I shall hold you single handedly responsibly. I can see the headlines now. Louis Tomlinson Ends One Direction."
I breathed in sharply. Fuck, what if she's right?
She hung up without another word. I flung the phone across the room and it hit a wall, but didn't break.
"I hate it!" I spat, spinning around to look at Harry. "But I have to!"
"Louis, this is a bad idea..." Harry grabbed my shoulder. "You won't ruin us, you love Emily..."
"It's fine," I shook him off. But it wasn't fine, nothing was fine, everything sucked. Sucked with a capital S.

EMILY
Louis called me downstairs for a movie with Heather, Fearne and Mike and Kian. Kian put in Grease, and we cuddled up together. All through Hopelessly Devoted to You, Louis was off. His touches urgent, his breathing shallow. He wasn't himself.
"Hey, Emily," Louis finally whispered in my ear. "I have to tell you something."
"What, Lou?" I asked, my eyes boring into the TV screen. I couldn't look away now. Sandy and Danny were having a moment.
"We need to break up."
Heather's head snapped up and stared at Louis. Fearne nearly fell off the sofa. Mike was only smirking, the bastard.
"W-what?" I whispered. "Why?"
It couldn't be right. Had to be a prank. Louis loved me, I was sure of it. And it was so out of the blue. What had I done?
"I can't tell you," He choked out, after a long pause. I could feel tears brimming but I refused to let them fall.
"Louis, Louis, you're joking right? What did I do?" I begged, desperate. Louis was the only boy that I felt special with, now he was leaving me?
Talk about shitty.
"I have to, Em," He muttered, touching my arm tentatively. I brushed him off, heart thudding in my chest.
Fuck life.
"Don't call me that. Go away, go away!" I said, my voice rising. "Go away!"
I left his side and leant into Kian, cherishing the smell and warmth he brought but he wasn't Louis. Before I could think, Mike pulled me to his side and crashed a kiss to my lips. I yanked away in disgust and Heather was gaping at him, eyes shocked.
"Get off me, pervert!" I shrieked, batting him away. I looked at Louis, who was half standing. Anger boiled in my veins.
How dare he act jealous? How dare he act like he cares?
Did he ever care?
I locked myself in my room and blasted my iPod. It played Everybody Hurts by Avril Lavigne. And I mumbled along without even realising it.
"Don't know, don't know if I can do this on my own,
Why do you have to leave me?
It seems, I'm losing something deep inside of me,
Hold on, onto me."Avril took over when I didn't know the lyrics anymore.
"It feels like nothing really matters anymore,
When you're gone, I can't breathe.
And I know you never meant to make me feel this way,
This can't be happening."From downstairs, Louis' voice floated up.
My chest ached. I can't do this. I should leave.
LOUIS:
"Emily's leaving."
My stomach fell. I froze mid-bite of my biscuit. "What?"
"Whatever you did, you bastard, fix it," Abi growled, slamming her book into my chest. "She at least deserves an explanation.
"I can't do it right now. Give me an hour, I have an appointment to get the wheels on my car fixed." And it was all true, but it still felt like an excuse.
She left with a snort of disgust. My eyes flitted around. A photo of me and Emily was taped above the kettle. We were in my car, happy and just back from the park. My arm was around her, our cheeks smushed together. My smile was brighter than it had ever been. A crippling feeling of regret brewed somewhere in me. What was I doing?
I can't lose her.

Oh my god, I'm going to die.
My RangeRover hurtled over the speedbumps as I raced to Tesco's.
I'd come home to find everyone subdued. Emily had left.
With words of persuasion, Fearne directed me to her located.
I leapt out of the car and ran into the shop, searching the aisles for the little brunette. She was in the travel items section and I bounded, panting.
"I'm sorry, Emily, Courtney threatened me and I didn't wanna ruin my career, but I also wanted to protect you and she told me to break up with you and believe me, I love you; please take me back," I blurted, hunching over to catch my breath.
"You do?" She asked, unsure.
"I really do, please, Emily, I'm so stupid. But I can't lose you for Courtney."
Then she did something unexpected.
She seized my face and her soft hands gripped my cheeks. She kissed me.
"Why didn't you tell me that?!" She exclaimed quietly. "I love you Louis, I love you, I promise, we'll make this work, right?"
"I love you too," I said quietly, and pulled her close to my chest. Kissing her forehead I murmured into her hair, "I'm sorry."
"So I'm still your girlfriend?" She asked hopefully. I grinned down at her.
Only if I'm still your boyfriend," I smiled.
"Yeah, now let's get out of Tesco's."
