I was walking down the empty school hallway to my locker after staying late for clubs and sports.  I realized that the school was actually very creepy when it was deserted like this.  I past the cafeteria and the door to the courtyard outside and rounded the corner so i was standing in front of my locker.  I quickly went through my schedule, thinking about all the homework I had received from each class that day and what I needed to bring home with me.  I was lost in thought and didn’t realize the figure sneaking up behind me.

All of the sudden, someone grabbed my sides and screamed “Hi!”

“Ahhh!!!” I screamed, whipping around and putting my hand over my chest when I realized who it was.  “Why do you always do that Harry? You know it scares me to death!” I said, feeling my heart race about 100 miles per second.

“I do it because I always get a good laugh out of it.  I mean c’mon, look at you, you are as pale as a ghost!” He said doubling over in laughter.  I gave him a stern look and flicked his nose, turning around again to open my locker.

Harry had been my best friend since preschool and we were really close.  We were inseparable as little kids and still pretty much are, aside from the occasional, club, sport, or class that we don’t have together.  We always wait for each other after school and walk home together.  We are best friends, and nothing more.  Well at least I didn’t think it was anything more, but recently, I have been feeling a bit differently.

As I looked at Harry lean up against the locker next to mine, the same thing that had been invading my thoughts more and more recently, made its way back into my mind.  Harry looked hot! I got butterflies, and felt myself starting to turn a slight shade of red when i though about him grabbing my sides again.  Something was making me see him as more then just my best friend lately and I really didn’t know what to do about it.  I seemed to be getting lost in his gorgeous eyes more and more often when we spoke and I just didn’t know how to explain it.

“Jessica, you almost ready?” Harry said, waking me from my thoughts.

“Oh yeah, I just need to grab my science binder.” I said taking out the blue binder from my locker and tucking it under my arm. “Ready.” I said, and we both walked out of the building.

When we got to the corner Harry began talking “Did you understand Mr. Morrison’s lesson today in math?  I was so lost.” he said.  I knew what he actually meant is you are smart. Please help me!

“Yes Harry, I will explain it all to you when we get to my house.” I said, adding “and I will take it slow so maybe, just maybe, you can actually process it.”

“Ha. Ha.” he said, sarcastically amused.  I couldn’t help but notice he got closer as he said that, and I could smell the mint from his gum on his breathe.  I stopped breathing for that second, not wanting to make any sudden movements.  Oh gosh, I really had to stop this! Harry was best friend, nothing more.

When we got to my house, I lied down on the couch, flinging my shoes off.  I dropped my books on the coffee table and Harry did the same but he just stood there above me.  He continued to look down at me without speaking, just intensely staring while he locked those gorgeous eyes with mine.

“Can I help you?” I said, shifting on the couch so he wasn’t staring directly into my eyes. Then he adjusted so he was sitting next to me on the couch. I reached over to open his math book so we could get started, but Harry grabbed my arm just as I was about to open it and stopped me.  I looked over my shoulder at him, and our eyes locked once again.  He leaned in and gave me a gentle kiss that made my lips tingle.  That is when I realized that I wasn’t the only one who had decided that they were in love with their best friend.
