"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR, RACHEL! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" I hear Ricky yell over my bed. I pull the blankets up over my head, but Ricky is faster and pulls them off of me.

"Hey! If it is my Birthday then why can't I sleep in?" I say and smile at my family that is all around my tinny little bed.

Dad looks at me and says "Because we have a big surprise for you, and you need to get ready" I can see that in Dads and Ricky's eyes they are so excited to give me this gift, so I smile just to make them happy.

"Okay, I'll be down in 10." I say, and with that Dad gives me a hug and kisses my forehead, then walks out. Ricky, who is now sitting on my bed hands me a box.

"What is this? I did not ask for any gifts Ricky," as I opened the box I gasped. Inside was a gold ring. nothing special about it. "Where did you get this?" I asked

"I've been saving up all of the money I found just to get you a very nice gift on your 18th Birthday. I know its not much but I thought it was something every Princes should have." Princes is the nick name Ricky gave to me when I was 8 and she was only 3. She calls me Princes because I do all of the cleaning, and take care of her and Dad, and can still go to school and get good grades. She thinks for all of the hard work I do I should be a princes.

"Awwh! Ricky you shouldn't have. Its your money, you could have spent it however you wanted." I tried to put the ring back in her hands, but she wouldn't take it. Knowing she was not going to let me give it back I then added "Would you like to do the honers?" and handed her the box with the ring in it, and gave her my right hand. I watched as she put the ring on the ring finger of my right hand.

"You look so pretty with it on Rachel." And she threw her arms around my neck and hugged me.

"It is perfect! Thank you." I whispered into her ear. "Now I have to get ready for the thing you and Dad have hidden from me" as I poked her side and walked over to my basket of laundry. I head the door close behind Ricky. 'Thank you God, for giving me the most wonderful family I could ask for' I thought as I got dressed for my day.

I came down stars and sat at the kitchen table. "Dad, what is it that we are going to do today? Its Friday, and its freezing outside." I said.

"You will know in due time, darling. But for now you have to eat" and with that he set a bole of oatmeal in front of me. I ate in a hurry, I really want to know what this gift is, and I can't stand not knowing. I walked outside and the cold wind blew on my face. I smiled as I watched the snow fall.

"What a lovely day this is going to be." I herd Dad say as he closed the door behind him. Ricky ran out the the car and got into the back seat.

"Yes it is" I said to no one in particular, as I walked to the car and sat down in the passenger seat. I watch the snow fall, I have always loved the snow and to watch it fall and try to count how many flakes fall, it is something I do to forget about what is going on. Or when I would like time to thing, that always helps me.

The house we live in, is not really a house. It was a business building before, then the business moved. When Mom died we had a lot of fantail trouble, so we came here to this mostly knocked down building. It only has 4 floors now. no one lives there but us, and we don't dare go past the second floor. Ricky and I slipped on the second floor, all we had to sleep on were old mattresses and a few blankets for warmth. Dad sleeps down stairs on the couch. Dad works but only makes the money for food, cloths, water, and sometimes gas for the car. I have nothing spectacular like a phone, or a Facebook. Nothing like that and I am okay with that because I have the best family I could ask for. That is all anyone could ask for.

As the car came to a stop I slowly came back. We were in a big city. One I have not been to before. It was really pretty, all of the trees lightly dusted with snow, the snow in the window sills, people walking around in winter coats, hats, and boots. The little white twinkly lights were on, and to make it better snow was lightly falling. It was the most beautiful sight I have ever seen.

Ricky must have noticed me awe, because she then proceted to poke me and say "Look Rachel! It is a white horse! So pretty!" Ricky has always loved horses.

"Dad why are we here?" I asked, even though I could have stayed in this vary spot forever.

"You will see, darling, all you need is pashents." Dad's calming voice said to me, as he claimed out of the car. Ricky and I fallowed.
