"Let's just wait it out. You know, be all Poetic and lose our minds together."

Riley Abel. My best friend, always somehow knew what to say. Despite us both getting bitten she still carried on her words as if there was actually hope...
Her hand and my arm were both contaminated with this infection. We were approached by runners but just to my luck I fell and got attacked. She came back for me. Why was I surprised? She had left me all these years and the one night I finally saw her face everything suddenly goes wrong.
Many people said I was a fighter, that I would be able to take care of myself and let nothing get past me. That I wouldn't get myself into shit like this, that I wouldn't get infected. Well, not this early anyway. Many grew the intentions of me not getting infected ever, but that suddenly changed within seconds. I'm weak, always have been and always will.
It amazes me how spending time with someone you love can cover up reality. Can help you escape for even just seconds. How the feeling can just eliminate your focus on everything, and then cost you everything.

I took a glimpse at the helpless body which was Riley. She didn't look in pain at all, she just sat there with her head facing down to the ground reevaluating everything that just happened. Exactly what I was doing.
I stared at everything I had destroyed in anger before. All the ornaments and decorations which used to serve a purpose in the world just cracked open on the dying soil. I continued to stare.
What do I do now? What do we do now is the question I should be asking myself. Ever since Riley said we should wait it off I've been seeing nothing but fear in her eyes. She was broken and so was I. Despite all this, she still was yet to show actual pain.
The infection was slowly spreading but I couldn't feel it. Why couldn't I feel it? Many back at the camp said once the infection enters your body you are greeted by a great pain and the feeling overcomes you of being powerless. That there was some sort of Parasite travelling through you and there wasn't a single thing that could be done. There was no cure, and there never will be. I pressed my finger against the bite marks on my arm which seemed to be swelling now. I looked at Riley's hand, hers suddenly looked worse than before.
"Ellie." Riley managed to spit out whilst I was trapped in my thoughts.
I turned to face her. Once I made eye contact with her I could slowly see her character breaking. She was always strong and independent but just staring at her face you could tell she was broken too.
"Yes."
With her uninfected hand she grabbed mine and held tightly.
"I'm sorry it had to be this way Ellie, I never planned for this to happen."
"Sorry for what? I doubt you knew we were going to get infected."
She clenched my hand tighter.
"We both did. It was a risk and we took it." Riley sighed.
"Well for once I'm glad I took a risk if it meant I was to spend more time with you."
As I said this Riley caught my eyes again. Her body posture rising more as she seemed somewhat relived that I had said that. As if it was something she had wanted to say herself.
"Really?" She asked in Curiosity.
"Yes of course. I've been waiting this whole time for you to suddenly show up and I'm glad you did. I didn't expect it to end like this but I don't think you did either."
She managed to laugh. We both smiled at each other. I'll miss this.
"What about our bags? We left them back in there when we were basically in our Death bed." I asked debating with myself whether we should go back in to find them.
"If you're going to suggest to go back in there then don't. No point since we are going to die anyway."
I shivered at the word 'Die'. I never expected to hear it this soon, especially coming from Riley.
"We have a few more hours left and it's going to get dark. Think we should at least go back there for them for our own defence."
No response. She just turned her head as if to disagree with the idea.
"Fine then. I'll go back in there myself and retrieve them." As I said this I managed to pick myself off the ground tugging away at Riley's grasp on my hand. She attempted to pull back at my arm but I became out of her reach.
"Wait no Ellie! You almost died back in there once, don't make it twice."
I had my hand on the door handle at this point. I turned around to exchange eye contact with Riley for maybe the last time.
"I'll be fine."

Hey guys been a while. I'll carry on with the Pricefield Fanfiction soon since you all seemed to like it, I just have to get myself in the 'mood' if you get what I mean.
I've always wanted to do a Tlou Fanfiction so here it is. I don't expect it to get many views but I enjoyed writing this first chapter. :) Hope you guys enjoy it! Might not be 100% accurate since I haven't properly played Tlou in a while so some of the story has gone from my head, let me know if you spot anything and I can change it! Bye for now. :)
