He smiled at her confidence; she smiled at someone else

He was her best friend; now she had a new one.

He shed tears that day Adrien came. The rain scene after school. He knew from that day foward that her heart was meant for someone else. Adrien was the yin to her yang. And now all he could do was watch from afar...

No matter how much it hurt.

He loved Marinette but she loved someone else. He was okay with Adrien being with Marinette because that was when she would smile. He always loved seeing her happy and he was glad Adrien could make her feel that way.

Nathaniel loved her for her perfections and flaws. He didn't care what she looked like, he cared more about the way she was on the inside.

He remembers the first time they met.
It was the 7th grade and he was new to the school. He was picked on a lot and often times teased at school. He was heading home one day with all his stuff packed in his backpack for the weekend. Some kids decided that it was the perfect time to pick on the new kid. They shoved him up against the wall and punched his left eye. His eye started to bleed and the tears started to fall. They continued to beat him up until a girl decided to stand up for him.

"Hey! Go pick on someone else with a brain like yours! Oh wait no one else has a brain that dead." She stated with confidence, her blue eyes filled with certainty, "Now go AWAY!"

"Are you okay" she asked. She then noticed his eye.

"Oh no we have to get you to the hospital!" She frantically got up and pulled him over to the hospital.

They gave him stitches on his eye, so there was now a line going across his eyeball.

"I'm Marinette." She smiled kind heartedly.

"N-Nathaniel." He stammered, looking like an adorable little tomato.
"Thank you for helping me, you didn't have to do that."

She just smiled.

"Of course I did, it's the right thing to do. And besides you're cute."

He blushed redder than his hair.

SHE JUST CALLED ME CUTE! SHE THINKS I'M CUTE! WHAT DO I SAY! WHAT DO I SAY! DO I ASK HER OUT! WAIT I CAN'T DO THAT I'M AT THE HOSPITAL! AAARRRGGGHHHH! WHAT DO I DOOOOOO!!!!!

Throughout the 3 whole minutes he had those thoughts he had a dumbstruck look on his face with a goofy grin. (Oh tomato child 😂)

For the rest of the years of his school life he covered his eye with his hair, not wanting to gather attention.

He loves Marinette and he knows it. That's why he has to let her be with Adrien. The boy she truly loves. He knows that she could never look at him the same way she looked at Adrien. It would never happen.

But he still loves her and always wanted to see her smile. So if she was happy with someone else, he was happy watching from afar.
