chapter 1

"Kennedy, wake up! Time for school," my mom yelled up the stairs to my loft. Oh great. The second day of school. I thought to myself as I changed into my favorite new school outfit. But, at least I'll have my two best friends, Ethan and Margie right? They haven't ever hung out together, but they know of each other and individually their my best friends and I love both of them to death. They should definitely spend time together with me.
"Ken, hurry your ride is here!" I shoved one last bite of cereal in my mouth and ran out the door.
"Bye, Mom!" I shut the door and ran into Ethan's car.
"Hey, Dee." Ethan said excited.
"Hey, E." I said smiling playfully. I've known Ethan my whole life, and it's tradition to say that every time we see each other.
"You two are so weird," I heard Grayson say in the back seat without looking up from his phone.
"You're just jealous because Eth always saves the front seat for me, huh." I said turning and looking at him. He scoffed at me because he didn't know what to say.
"So are we picking up Margie today?" Ethan said starting the car.
"I think so." I said buckling up.
"Alright, lead the way." He said pulling out of my neighborhood.

"Margie! You look so darling," I said as she opened my door. She looked at me, and since I knew what that meant, I moved to the back. Grayson is know for being a man slut, and Margie was uncomfortable around him. She's wearing a dress today so she doesn't want Gray looking up her skirt or anything.
"I wouldn't want your darling dress to get crinkled" I said stepping out of my seat. I wasn't uncomfortable around Gray because I've know him my whole life, too, so I don't mind getting in the back for Marg. And I've always had a little bit of a crush on him. The backseat was a little squishy so I was touching Gray.
"Hey Eth and Marg. Let's all three of us hangout sometime. I want my besties to become besties. I feel like you guys hardly know each other." I said after I settled in the seat. Little awkward giggles came out of their mouths instead of words. Why are they so awkward about it? We sat in an awkward silence for a bit.
"Off to school we go then." Grayson said and we drove off.

Finally school was over and I met everyone at Ethan's car.
"Why aren't you at soccer?" Ethan said concerned.
"It's a surprise" I winked as I got in the car.
"You know what isn't a surprise? Grayson sluffing just to go have sex with a girl."
"Real classy." I said putting my feet on the dash. Ethan blasted music with the windows rolled down. Nothing like a feeling summer gives on the first day of school.

"Bye, E."
"Bye, Dee." He said as I shut the car door.
Now you're going to go get your license! I walked in my house to find my mom all ready to go pick it up and get my picture taken. The drive over was silent.
"So, how was school?" My mom said trying to make conversation.
"Mom, you don't have to do this." I said looking at my hands.
"I know, but I want to." She said looking at me.
"I'm not ready." I said adjusting in my chair.
"Oh." She said trailing off, "have you heard from your dad recently?"
"No," I said as we pulled to a stop in the parking lot, "and if I did, why would I tell you." I got out of the car and went into the DMV with my mom following behind me.
After I got my license my mom said, "I'm going to Janet's. Do you wanna drop me off and then have the car for the rest of the day?"
"Really?" I said excitedly.
"Yeah," my mom smiled. It was one of those smiles. The ones she'd give trying to make up for what she did. There's no way in fucking hell I'd ever forgive her for what she did, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to take the offer. I drove her to Janet's, her best friend, house. Ethan will be so surprised. I kept the fact I was taking drivers ed and I got my license a secret just so I could surprise Eth. He's like a big brother to me, and I'll stop at nothing to make him proud of me.

I pulled up in the Dolan's driveway. His parents cars weren't in the driveway, but Ethan's car was and I saw a light on upstairs. I walked in quietly so I could scare Ethan. I walked up the stairs, and down the hall to Ethan's room. Open on three. One, two...
"Surprise!" I swung the door open, and saw Ethan in bed with a... girl?
"Margie?" I said in disbelief.
