Layers Of Fear

Layer 1

There once was a little boy. He lived with his parents in a big house. The little boy always loved to play in the house. He would run down the corridors and find new places to hide. He enjoyed himself.

One day the little boy's parents get into a fight. His father gets mad and smashes his liquor bottle against his wife's skull. His father laughs while he keeps bashing her head in over and over again. The little boy watches from the top of the stairs. He's confused and curious what that red liquid coming from his mother is. A feeling of dread fills the boy. He knows something is wrong as his always strict father is laughing and he tries to sneak away.

The floor creaks and his father turns to see him.

His eyes wide and alert, he lets out an insanely gleeful giggle and chases the little boy down the corridors.

The boy loved to play in the big house. He especially loves to run down the corridors. But not like this. The little boy learns fear.

He runs until he reaches the end of the corridor where a balcony is all he can escape to. He runs there. Big mistake. A fatal one.

The little boy slips and falls right off the side of the building, a loud crunch being a signal that he was gone. It was a quick and painless death, a luxury his mother would not have.

As his mother lies on the floor dying she sees her husband walk back. Her son is not with him. She knows what that means but cannot sum up any strength to cry. She sees her husband raise the bottle one last time. Closing her eyes, a single tear falls voluntarily. She opens it one more time and her eyes grow wide in disbelief.

Standing behind her husband's shoulder was her son, bloodied and neck twisted in an odd angle. Her son smiles to her and his mouth forms the last words she'll ever know. She smiles and closes her eyes as the bottle is brought down hard on her skull.

A sickening crunch marks the end of her life.
