she got her wish.
she just didn't know that it was yerim's, too.
-
they were alone at yerim's house. yerim plopped down next to her on yerim's bed. yerim's pale face looked like she had put on some extra blush. she had her face buried in her english textbook the entire bus ride home. she was acting different.
it was now that yerim scooched closer to her on her bed, rolling over on her side and gazing into the other girl's eyes.
"i... i have something i've wanted to say, for a while now," timidly, yerim tucked a couple strands of hair behind her ear.
the other girl instantly felt worried.
by yerim's anxious expression, she could see something about her was off.is she upset?
is she okay?
she thought of all the outcomes to what yerim could say next, but she would have never guessed that yerim would say this.
"um," the girl in front of her cleared her throat, "i know we're best friends. and i don't want that to ever change but, i've had a crush on you for the longest time."
her eyes widened.
did yerim really say that?
this must be some kind of dream.she pinched the skin on her hand behind her back, so yerim wouldn't see.
nope. this was definitely real.
yerim seemed extremely tense now, and it looked like she was breaking into a cold sweat.
"i don't want to sound weird and i don't want to make you feel weird or anything. it's just that, i can't go on anymore without saying anything."
looking into yerim's panicking eyes, she could see that yerim was about to ramble. yerim began to wipe her sweaty palms on her jeans.
"okay, actually... scratch everything i just said. you're not really responding so that probably means you're uncomfortable. oh man, i'm sorry. uh, can we just pretend i didn't tell you all this and just forget this? i probably ruined our friendship already, oh my god. i'm so annoying why do i have to mess everythi-"
no matter how long she payed attention to yerim's lips, seeing her laugh and giggle and smile, she wouldn't have imagined that her lips would taste this sweet.
the instant when yerim's mouth crashed back into hers, she felt completely whole again. their bodies melted into each other and the girl felt yerim's arms loosen up and find their way into her hair.
she closed her eyes, and relaxed her body.
yerim's lips felt ten times softer than her hands, and they were the flavor of the strawberries she always had at lunch.
the girl never felt like this before, not with him, not with anyone. but she wasn't going to think about him right now.
the best person in the world was in her arms, and she never wanted to let her go. it felt like her heart mended itself.
she knew that yerim saved her from much grimmer consequences. yerim didn't have to speak to her that one day and help her out. but yerim did.
if yerim hadn't grabbed her hand that day, she didn't even want to think what she might've done if she stayed alone another week. yerim might've just saved her life.
thank you, yerim.
this moment, she would remember.
their hearts beating loudly together against one another.
her arms linked around her waist and yerim's hands on her cheeks, the same cheeks that were streaked with scolding tears only a few months before.
yerim made her believe she would never feel empty again.
yerim's warm lips smile into the kiss and it makes her feel weak in the best way possible.
she wanted to stay like this forever.
she finally felt,
unbroken.
