My mom used to always tell me how smart I was. That I was smarter than Percy, my older brother. I was born when he was eighteen, so he left for New Rome college when I was still young.

When I was five, I built my own telescope. I used glow in the dark star stickers to create many of the constellations on my bedroom ceiling. Percy showed me a constellation that no astronomer noticed yet.

It was at the Central Park in Manhattan, where we lived. Our parents were out so he took me for a walk to the park at night, and I brought along a telescope. I was five, so it was far too heavy to carry with my small hands.

We reached the dark and silent park. I helped Percy figure out how to set up the telescope, and through the clearing, past the buildings, I admired the bright and full moon. I vaguely remembered drawing out constellations. But what I remember most was the constellation that Percy had pointed out to me.

"What's that star chain called?", my innocent voice whispered excitedly. (Yeah, star chain. In other words, a child's way of saying constellation).

My tiny hands worked the telescope to see the foreign constellation.

Percy choked on his words suddenly, but I'm sure I remembered that wrong. There was no reason for Percy to be so shady about a constellation. Right?

"She's- it's called Zoe Nightshade.", he corrected, and I zoomed in a little closer. I felt my older brother's arm wrap protectively around me.

"Why is it called that?", I yawned.
"Well-", he gulped strangely, but again, it's probably just my bad memory.
"She was a hero...in history. So they named a constellation after her when she died to save her friends.", he said slowly.

I looked through my self made telescope one last time, and Zoe's constellation seemed to draw a picture by itself.

A hunter, her bow drawn gracefully, ready to ignite her arrow into the starry night forever.

That night as my mom tucked my in, with glowing star stickers on the ceiling of my room, my curious little self decided to ask her about the unknown constellation.

"Who's Zoe Nightshade?", I asked, and my mom faltered with her words. She obviously knew about the constellation, I just didn't understand why she decided not to tell me. Maybe it was a long story.

"I'll talk to you about it in the morning, okay?", she said, and kissed me goodnight.

But before I drifted off to sleep, I thought I heard my mom talking to Percy about me.
I only remember fragments.
"You can't....."
"....not.....safe."
"She's....find.......eventually"

I did end up searching the Zoe Nightshade's constellation, but nothing came up.

That was years ago, and now I'm turning sixteen next week. Percy's moved to California with his wife, Annabeth, and three kids. I haven't seen them in a few months, since Cali is across the United States.

Life with my parents, Sally Jackson and Paul Blofis, was normal.
Life with school was normal.

Almost.

Everything was going well, great even, until I started seeing things I couldn't explain.
