"Oh John perfect timing, please look at this." Sherlock pushed a pile of books towards John, looking down. A long silence followed.
"Come on John there's a killer on the loose and you sitting there drinking your tea won't help." Sherlock looked up, rather annoyed. John was sitting in his armchair staring down at his hands.
His eyes are clearly watery and his hands are shaking. He's trying to hide it and clenching his teeth, both mad and upset. He left two hours ago, when he left he was fine and left immediately for his house. He should've only been at home and taking a cab here and back. He was supposed to be here an hour ago and didn't respond to my texts, meaning that something must've happened at home. At this time of day there is no reason for traffic to be unusually slow. He and Mary must've fought.
"John I know you're upset but it can easily wait, now just take a look at these books."
"Sherlock...Mary and I..."
"Had a fight yes I know. Now can we please just focus here." Irritated Sherlock stood up and walked over to John.
"It's even extremely interesting, the killer has an interest in me and will probably make plenty of indirect contact. It's fun when they want to get caught, makes for a good challenge. I've told you about this one before, the one with the two murders and the weird messages on the wall."John almost didn't notice what Sherlock was saying.
"I don't want to be married to her anymore."
Sherlock rolled his eyes.
"Then what exactly is the problem if your mind is already made up?!"
"I want a divorce."
"Then that settles that. What exactly do you want me to do.""Dammit Sherlock, most people would care, what is it that you don't understand. I finally found someone that I love but then turns out she bloody shot my best friend! And I asked her about it and she couldn't tell me why." John stood up his voice quivering.
"I'm practically want to get divorced because I care about you so, it would be nice if someone cared around here!"
"John I, it's no big deal she just...We'll talk about it later but seriously, could you help with the case now?" Sherlock said in a quiet tone.
"Shut up! Just shut up Sherlock I'm leaving, and I'm sure you'll eventually figure out why being so smart and all!"John quickly walked out of the room quietly shutting the door behind him. I must have done it again. Sherlock realized that he probably should have treated the situation differently but he was, after all, a high functioning sociopath. He almost didn't care at all, almost glad. But why? He liked Mary and John was his best friend, why couldn't he feel even a tiny bit bad?
Sherlock didn't dwell on his thoughts too long, not liking where it was going. He sat down and looked at the books he had tried to give to John, focusing on them instead.
Turns out she shot my bloody best friend.
"Strange that that fact of all things pushed him over the edge." Sherlock mumbled to himself. He continued reading until he found what he needed. He grabbed his jacket and rushed out the door in pursuit of the killer.
