Arthur was born to Uther Pendragon, known to be one of the wisest rulers of Great Britain. At the time of Arthur's birth, the country was at war. Uther had two close friends, Merlin the magician and a well-known knight Ulfius. Both these men gave Uther good advice. Merlin told the king of his future and the futureof his new born baby. He predicted that the King would get seriously ill and die. Upon his death, many would like to be the king and so the baby's life would be in danger.

The king, acting on the advice of his two friends, had the baby wrapped in a thick cloth and taken to one of the palace gates by Merlin and Ulfius. Sir Ector, a noble close to the king, waited for them at the palace gate. He was told to raise the baby as his own. The three, Ulfius, Merlin and Sir Ector, promised to tell no one of what happened.

A few months later, Uther Pendragon got sick and died. The nobles quarreled and fought over the throne. This went on for eighteen years. The bishop of Canterbury asked Merlin what should be done to end up the wuarrels and fight of the nobles.
