I can hear them in the walls. Nails scrape against the drywall, thumps from when they get too rowdy, but I never hear them speak. It makes me curious. My family says I've got a big imagination for my age. They smile and laugh at me. It's too bad they never listen to me because finally they speak to me. They tell me to do bad things and promise a big reward.
The first act was simple. They wanted me to leave marbles at the top of the stairs. It didn't sound like a big deal so I did it. Mommy got hurt as she went to make breakfast that morning. She rolled down the stairs like a ball. I thought it was a little funny. I didn't get breakfast from mommy but they had a huge one for me. It had all my favorites from chocolate chip pancakes to crispy bacon. It was nice.
The next act was more difficult. Daddy was next. He promised to take me to the zoo. I'm sure it was because mommy was mad at me. I can't blame her. They told me all I had to do was make daddy run into the street. It sounded hard but I had an idea. I brought along my small bouncy ball. I dropped it so it would roll down our driveway and into the street. I pretended to run after it but daddy pulled me as I got to the end of it. He walked over to pick it up and daddy got hit by a car. Which was funny because he always tells me to look both ways before crossing the street. He died a week later because he was bleeding on the inside.
Daddy was in the hospital and mommy had a broken leg. The voices in the wall told me my family was broken. They promised me a new one, a better one. I argued that my family was great but they said they would punish me if I didn't listen.
Mommy started the fireplace before we went to bed. All I had to do was spill some smelly liquid from the fireplace all around the living room. So, of course I did and it was pretty. It was like the fire was hungry. I ran back to my room and saw angel. I asked him what he was doing here. He said he was waiting for me so we could step through the light coming from my wall. I asked him his name.
He smiled and whispered in my ear as if it was a secret "Lucifer. Now come Lilith, your new family awaits you." Then we were gone.
