Ashley was true to her word and moved out on Friday and had her things set up within two days. That was after getting a new bed for Becky from Dallas. He has been a great help, though she can't figure out what it is he wants. She knows that he is not being nice for no reason. Doug taught her that and her mother has been saying that since she met him, but she didn't listen and this time she knew she was not going to make that same mistake.
Her cell phone started ringing as she started to walk outside with her hands full of food for her and Becky. They had their own personal picnic planned. Ashley laid down a blanket so they could sit under the sun without sitting in the itchy grass. By the time, she set the plates of finger foods down her phone stopped ringing but chimed out to let her know she had a voice mail.
"Mommy, look the bug." She said as she was pulling on her arm trying to get her to see what had her so excited.
She listened to the voice and heard the sexiest man in the world. Why did her heart want something it couldn't have? Dallas was great right now, but he could change the minute they started dating. That is how men were now days and she didn't have time with her having a daughter to take care of and protect.
"Hey you, no I am outside with Becky. We are going to have a little private picnic for us. You can come over at work and see us. I will make dinner if you want to stay long. What do you like to eat? Okay, I guess I can choose something to cook. I know thank you, and have a good day."
She couldn't keep the smile from her face no matter how hard she tried. Ashley tried telling herself that they were friends and that is all that they could be. How was she going to tell him that and mean it? He calls her through the day to check on her and he sends text messages to her phone to make sure she is okay. He has asked where she works, but she changes the subject on him.
"Let's get some of this food before the bugs get it. Do you want some cheese and crackers?" she asked already getting it ready.
"yes."
Becky sat there eating and smiling as she moved her body like she was dancing. Ashley couldn't help but to watch her and laugh while she danced with that goofy smile on her face and food in her small fingers. Taking small bites of cheese and crackers as it was actually to hot outside for her to eat much. She doubted Becky was going to eat very much either.
An hour later they finished eating Becky was running around the back yard. Ashley was cleaning up the remaining food and blanket before Dallas showed up. She looked at her one more time and then walked into the house and laid the dishes in the sink and the blanket on the chair. She walked back outside to fight with her daughter about going inside. This was the hard part when it was so nice out still and she made Becky come in because she would get angry and yell.
Becky was standing in the fence and looking like she saw someone there. Her heart stopped beating and her legs started moving on their own. Was someone there trying to take her daughter? Was it Doug for some reason? She ran up to her and looked around, but she didn't see anyone. Grabbing her hand, she led her back to the house and looked over her shoulder to see what Becky was looking at.
Ashley got a cup of juice, handed it to her baby, and walked into the living room where it was the coolest place in the house. She sat on the couch with a sigh and laid her head back on the back of the couch. She blew a breath out and turned her head enough to see her daughter standing close to her with a smile on her face.
"What are you smiling at silly butt?" she asked with a giggle.
Becky giggled and sat on the floor drinking her drink and copying her mom with laying her head back on the couch like her. Ashley watched her for a moment then there was a knock on the door. Her heart beat faster and she had to fight hard to keep the smile at a friendly smile. She opened the door to Dallas who was smiling like crazy, which almost had her coming undone.
