Running.
I was running in an empty void of space, in which I saw nothing but the color white. A color I despised most. There was something about the color that ticked me off--like evil was being masked by innocence. To me, it was a deceiving color. I hated lies and white is no doubt, a definition of a lie.
A cold kiss tickled my bare shoulders that sent shivers down my spine. Snow? I can see the white particles melting slowly on my skin. Strange...Where was the snow coming from? And how can a paralyzed seventeen year old run as if the world depended on it? Other than that, I found that I wasn't alone. There was a blurry figure running ahead of me with tremendous speed. Who was that? I couldn't even hear myself think after I heard that familiar laughter.
Was it Taehyung?
No. It couldn't be him. This laugh was more serene, more graceful, almost deafening to my ears. All of a sudden I reached out and yelled his name.
What did I call him?
"Who are you?" I finally caught up to the person. Thankfully, he stopped running, giving me a chance to close the gap between us.
The stranger replied with a soft laugh and grabbed my hands. He gave them a light squeeze and caressed my hand. Unconsciously, I held on tighter, the warmth resonating out of him was enough to warm me from the freezing cold.
"You can't recognize me even in your dreams?" He asked me.
I felt this emotion bubble inside of me and at the same time, there was a churning feeling in my stomach. "I don't know you, but I feel like I'm supposed to."
The blurred figured sighed "Is that so?"
I nodded and stood awkwardly in front of him. His face began to clear, enough for me to see his features. I saw him, but then I couldn't, like an unfocused camera trying to take a shot. He looked at me with sorrow and much pity. His gaze was enough to captivate me and send my soul down to oblivion. The unknown man's palms rested on my cheeks, bringing me back to reality, "We loved each other before...Maybe that's why you know me?"
Lovers? Did we not love each other anymore? What happened to us? Most of all, what is dream suppose to be about this time? Questions were buzzing uncontrollably around my head, but the irritating part is that I knew there will never be an answer. He suddenly let go of my hand and started to move away. A rush of cold air embraced my hand as it fell to my side. Hesitantly, I took a step forward and the more determined I felt, the more steps I took. Before I knew it, I was running after him.
I kept running until I saw a light hidden behind the fog of clouds and flurries of snow. The blinking red light was hypnotizing so I moved towards that direction. Maybe it might be my way back to him. Maybe that red light will answer my questions. Each gruesome step I took, the more louder my breathing was and the more heavier my steps became. Run! Run Eunji. You can't give up now! The more faster I ran, the more farther he went. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore.
The difference between me and him is that he's running with a purpose while I'm running aimlessly.
I crossed the empty street as I desperately tried to reach out to him. I was exhausted, cold, and this overwhelming sorrow drowned me. At this point I wanted to drop down and give up. I clutched onto my chest as I stopped to take a breath. He was only a couple steps away, how could I not reach him? I swallowed hard and started running again.
I was halfway down the street when the stranger turned around to face me. He looked familiar, almost recognizable. This man who had a sad expression on his face with a small smile displayed on his beautiful face was somebody I knew and loved. The expression on his face was what I know too well. It was his way of silently pleading me to stop.
