I smiled and took a deep breath. It was time to slide out of my small turtle like shell. I walked to the back of the cafeteria and sat across from the girl, though she didn't seem to notice. It was weird, I knew her, but then again I actually didn't know her at all.
"hi" I said to her with a grin "I'm Brooke"
The girl looked up, startled almost. "oh, hi. I'm Ana" she told me.
"so what're you reading?" I admired the cover of the book as she explained to me the storyline and characters of the book. I'm not one to read, but that book sure sounded appealing.

I began to sit next to Ana everyday during lunch. Our discussions ranged from debates over what movie of the hunger games trilogy was the best to our thoughts on who we think will be the next president. After about a week, Marissas condition still hadn't changed and Ana and I grew closer. I remember one day she's invited me over after school, I kindly declined explaining that I needed to head to the hospital after school. It was nice to finally have a friend to talk to again.

I knew that the chances of her hearing was a long shot, but I didn't have many other people to talk to. It was a little over a week after some extremely cute boys decided to plop themselves at our table and shove into our very tiny friend circle, and I figured that Marissa should know for when she gets back. I quietly pulled the chair sitting against the window up to her bed and sat."It didn't take long for two new faces to show up at our lunch table; Zach and Trevor.
Both of their personalities were completely different, though they were still the best of friends. Trevor, the popular football jock, somehow took interest the 'loners at the back table' and is actually really sweet now that we've gotten to know him. Zach, who I swear is the smartest kid in our grade, followed Trevor to our table. He sure doesn't talk much though, he is practically always studying. Then Jordan showed up. He's new this year and i think that it was his first day when Trevor decided that he suddenly wanted to befriend this kid. Jordan is hilarious, milk has squirted out of my nose as least three times since he showed up." I paused and chuckled slightly. "He'll definitely win the class clown for the mock elections senior year. I can't wait for you to meet them, I've talked a lot about you and they are looking forward to seeing and meeting the great and fabulous Marissa Henderson." I yawned and laid my head on the edge of her bed as I sang the lullaby from the hunger games to her softly._______________________________
"no, that cannot possibly be happening" Marissa cried, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
"well how long did you really think she'd last?" I asked her, though it was more of a rhetorical question.
Marissa sighed and wiped her eyes. "You know, I actually really like that song"
"The lullaby?" I questioned
Marissa nodded in response "I mean, I know that nothing bad is going to happen in the near future, but if you remember and are there, I think that that song would be a peaceful thing to hear as the last thing that I ever hear"
"geez Marissa, why'd you have get so deep with that? I was just watching one of my favorite movies and then you go and ruin it by making me cry" I wiped my cheeks
"alright, alright, but i'm done with this movie. Wanna get Julia and play twister?" Marissa suggested with the grin of the cheshire cat.
I shrugged "If you really want to take an L right before you sleep it's fine by me"
