Chapter 5
Luna's POV
"I do not mind fetching breakfast for us" I assured my mistress.
Estefania was still wearing an apologetic look, "I know, but I still do not feel comfortable with having you look after me. It feels wrong" she told me.
"I understand. It is not something I can say that I am used to, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I accepted your proposal for me to come to this Kingdom. Do not worry about my tasks, it is only a small price to pay for your kindness and hospitality" I stated.
"But only to keep up appearances; any other thing, when people are not there to question me, I will take care of my own tasks" she said, and I nodded in agreement.
I have known Estefania long enough to know better than trying to go against one of her decisions; her stubborn nature would not be satisfied until I have agreed to her terms.
"Alright then" I responded. Estefania smiled, content.
"You could get something from the kitchen..." she started saying, but stopped once she noticed the look I was giving her, "Or not. You can also go into town and buy food. Just keep a low profile, alright?" this idea I liked better and I agreed.
After she handed me a couple of silver coins, I decided to go on my quest for food. Anything that would get me out of the castle was good enough for me; so I left Estefania's chambers, went down the spiral staircase and was out of the castle in less than five minutes.
After passing through the courtyard, I pulled the mud-colored cloak I was wearing farther down over my eyes, to conceal my identity from the curious towns people.
The market was in full capacity even this early in the morning, with a crowd of buyers and sellers. There were stands for everything; food stands, wool and cloth stands, perfume stands, even the blacksmiths had a large range of inventory for sale. Without meaning to, a smile had spread on my lips. I loved a good market. Some people might find that strange, but I do. Markets are places were everyone comes together for different reasons and different needs and know they will find what they are looking for. I also love all the distinct smells that blend in together to make what I call "The Town's Fragrance". I noted that every town has a different one.
While growing even more distracted with the colors and products in the market, I decided to at least make the purchases that I came here for in the first place and then keep exploring for a bit.
I bought several freshly baked bread rolls from a nice old lady with a kind smile. I purchased a selection of fruit from a little boy who was trying to find enough money to buy his sister a new doll for her birthday. Then I traded a silver coin for some eggs and sausages from a man that called himself 'The Cook'. Satisfied with the food I had acquired through bargains, I decided to let myself wander around.
I organized all the items in a basket and still trying to close the lid, I turned around and bumped into a hard body. The basket slipped from my hands and an apple fell to the ground in the process. I cursed inwardly.
"I'm sorry, miss" I heard a distinct and familiar accent on his voice but did not place it until I grabbed my basket again and looked up at him. I dropped the basket again.
He smiled.
"You should really stop dropping it or the food will be inedible by the time you take it back to your mistress" he grinned and leaned down to grab the bruised apple that had fallen out during the first fall, as he also took the basket and offered it to me. His piercing blue eyes held my own silver ones as a smile played on his lips.
