I wish Dan could have turned her. Maybe then we wouldn't be here.
On that night after jack died a stillness lay upon the woods only broken by Eves screams. She was dying. She was so close to death I bet she could taste it.
Jack had rendered me and Dan useless. For when he bit her he put a poison in her blood stream, black magic in her blood that if either of us had tried to turn her, Eve and them would both die. Jack didn't want any of us to have her in the end. We had to watch her die, helplessly watch her die. We couldn't do anything. Then she closed her eyes, she went so limp and to us she was dead.
It fell silent again as we morned. I've faced death too many times but this one was significant.
But then there was this awful white glare blinded us, a black van had screeched to a halt and a small woman ran out and declared she could save her. She persisted and demanded and we were so desperate we followed. The van was not like any type of ambulance I had seen before, it was a bright white and everything was panelled and hidden away. The light burned my eyes and illuminated Eves body. You could see it in her veins, black diluting her blood, twisting around her face, arms and hands. She was so pale and it looked so harsh against her fragile skin. They hooked her up to a hidden machine and left us in the back. The van sped off and I couldn't tell how long the journey lasted, we were blind.
Dan never let her go. Never.
When we arrived he wouldn't let them near her. So they sedated him, a needle to his neck and dragged his body away. They lead me and Eves body to what seemed like a hospital, they carried her away down another hall and I submitted when they told me they needed to sedate me. I don't know why but it felt right. Dad still punishes me for letting her out of my sight.
Days later I woke up to find myself in a bed in the same hospital environment, I was healed, everything about me felt stronger and better. They treated me like any nurse would, then showed me around and then finally to Eve.
She was being kept in a separate bay from everyone else. Large, metal doors enclosed the room and a large window of thick glass allowed her viewing. Nobody but nurses allowed in. After a few days they let Dan out of his 'cell' and all he did was sit in that window. Watching her, making sure she was safe, holding on to every breath she took. He hadn't moved for days.
They locked her up for safety, too many vampires her would too easily feed upon and kill her. That's why Dan was kept away, he hadn't fed and they were scared of him and his uncontrollable anger. They wanted to protect her. But that wasn't just it, I'd heard them talking and seen the reactions. Being human is like being a germ, a disease here. Even though they kept us alive, the way they have treated us make me believe some part of our former life terrifies them. They are scared of her, so they lock her up and keep her asleep. They wanted to protect themselves.
I have been trying to keep my mind off everything, I've helped the people in here, mainly to cook. I did anything to distract myself.
No matter what has happened I didn't want to be here. But it was the only place to be, I don't like this feeling inside, it feels like bad things are coming. I don't know if I'm ready for them.
