Journal entry 34
Inside everyone is the need to survive. When something puts their loves in danger, even the most peaceful person can kill. Inside is that animal instinct which drives us to eat, to hunt, to mate, and protect those we love. But what happens if you don’t love anyone? Where does the need to protect go? Perhaps it’s always there and we just can’t find it.

Ouch. My head feels like I got drunk, caught a cold, got sucker punched, and then hit by a city bus. Yeah, it hurts that badly. But if I can still feel pain, then surely I’m not dead. Well that’s a paradox since I’m already dead… unless is there another afterlife after this? The afterlife is confusing…
I opened my eyes, to find that I was back in my room on my bed, with Coach Ted snoring away in a chair beside me. There were drips connected to the veins in my arms. But I wasn’t connected to common fluids, It was connected to blood bags. I tried sitting up, but I Instantly fell back groaning. Making Coach Ted open his eyes in surprise.
“Hey dude,” he said rubbing his eyes. “Nice epic fail,”
“Shut up,” I laughed. Coach Ted and I have bonded over the few weeks, and for once it almost feels like I have a friend.
“No, seriously,” he laughed. Coach Ted left his chair and walked across the room where he had a few supplies. “That fail, deserves a reward. I think I’ll nominate you for the Epic Fail Award.”
“You’re adorable. So what’s what are those things?” I asked, referring to the supplies.
“These things, are your new toys,” he started. Grabbing something from the pile. “This here, is going to save your life.”
“So what is it?” I asked. It was hard to see from the angle I was at, but it looked long, curved, a bit like a really big banana.
“This is your state of the art katana,” he said, unsheathing the sword. It was a beautiful, shiny black metal. With a long curved blade, and deep purple handle, it radiated darkness. “You can wear this baby all the time, and not have to worry about it being seen. You can’t accidentally hurt a mortal, since the blade will just pass through them, leaving them safe. However, it’s the Fakes worst nightmare.”
“How come it won’t be seen?” I asked curiously.
“Because technically, it’s not there,” he said, only leaving me confused. “Basically, you strap on the katana, and it will disappear, making it invisible. You won’t even feel it. However, when you need it, it automatically appears at your back ready to go. Also, when it’s gone, you can still place things on your back like a bag, and no one will notice. Objects pass straight though it like it were air.”
“Ok, sweet!” I said, getting excited. “So I have a sword that can only hurt fakes?”
“That’s right my boy,” he said, putting the katana down on my bedside cabinet. Before pulling out something a lot smaller. “Now this looks like a wrist watch. However, this bad boy not only tells time, like most watches do. But it can manipulate time as well.”
“Wait…” I said slowly, processing the information. “So this watch, can like, stop time and stuff?”
“Pretty much,” he said, handing me the silver, slim, watch. The watch had three buttons at the top, the one in the middle said “stop”, the one to the left of it said “travel”, and the last one said “slow”. “Now, Nathan, the stop button is pretty explanatory, it just stops time, freezing absolutely everything but yourself and whatever you want, in place. This next one, the slow button, this one just slows time to half it’s normal speed with one push, two pushes, and time slows to a quarter of it’s normal pace. Understand? Bonus, you still stay the same, so if you slow time, you can still move around normally, and you won’t feel it’s effects.”
“So if I were in a race or something, and I slowed down time, I would still run the same speed, while everything else will slow down?” I asked
“That’s right,” Coach said. “Now the last button, the travel button, allows you to travel back in time. You can’t travel forward since the future hasn’t happened yet. But you van travel back. One click will send you back a minute, two will send you back two, etcetera.”
“Sweet, I can already see the paradoxes.”
“Great job,” Coach laughed. He picked up the rest of the pile and put everything in a bag. “That’s it Nathan. You have your powers, your wings, your katana, your watch. All of it is state of the art of course.”
“Wait…” I said, disappointed. “No more toys? Gadgets? Gizmos? Things?”
“Sorry to say it Nathan, but no.” He said with a heavy sigh. “On the brighter side though, we still have to do some more learning, and you still get your final test at the end.”
“Test? What test?” I asked.
“You’ll see when the time comes,” he said with a wink.  “But while you are laying down, let me tell you about fakes.”
“Now I learn how to kill one?!” I said exasperated. “After one nearly kills me!?”
“I was seeing how you would handle it,” he said simply. “And you did quite well. But now let me tell you about the fakes. They can morph into whatever creature they please when they are created, so long as they are humanoid.”
“Like the vampire?” I asked.
“Exactly, but they can be more than just vampires. There’s zombies that eat flesh, werewolves which are humans that turn into wolves, witches, anything that you can imagine, they can be.”
“How convenient. So each fake is different. But my sword can kill all of them?”
“That’s right Nathan,” he said. “The trick is to figure out what they are, before they kill you first. And with all that being said. Time for your final
