Ashton sighed as he patted down his pockets in search for his lighter, and unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth since he couldn't find it. He wasn't really one to bother strangers, but he felt desperately in need of cigarette after the conversation he'd just been having with his friends inside the small diner he was standing outside of. They just got irritating sometimes, and he needed a break.

"Hi, excuse me," Ashton said breathily, approaching a small girl with a white stick between her pink lips. She didn't seem like the type of person to be smoking, but Ashton wasn't here to judge, just to use her lighter. She turned around and looked up at him.

"Do you have a light?" He asked, smiling apologetically, feeling a nuisance. The girl looked confused for a second before removing the small stick from her mouth, revealing it to be a half finished red lollipop. "Oh, s-" Ashton started to apologise, again.

"I don't, but my friend picking me up in a sec will have one for you." She smiled reassuringly at him and placed the candy back between her plump lips, Ashton watched intently but snapped himself out of his gaze once he realised. Her voice was sweet and kind, not the usual type of people he was used to involving himself with.

"Ah, thank you." He said, relieved.

"Don't thank me for enabling you, it's a horrible habit." She said, the lollipop still in her mouth and a very small smirk on her face. Ashton chuckled lightly and shook his head.

"Should I expect a lecture?" Ashton raised one of his eyebrows and held the same smirk on his face that the girl looking up at him did. He took the cigarette out of his mouth and rested it behind his ear, since he'd be waiting for a little while now, not that he minded.

"Well," she breathed in, ready to talk about smoking, since the subject kind hit a little close to home for her.

"Please, don't." He laughed, leaning against the wall next to her.

She let out a small sigh. "Fine." She popped the lollipop out of her mouth once again and held the stick between her fingers. "I just hate them." She looked at the one behind his ear and only then did she take in his facial features properly.

"Good job you're not the one smoking them then, princess." Ashton laughed at her as she rolled her eyes and placed the sucker back in her mouth. It seemed to hypnotise him a little bit every time she did that. He snapped himself out of his glaring at her once again.

She was about to comment on the odd choice of nickname that he'd just thought up, but her friends car threw itself around the corner before she spoke. She excused herself from her place next to Ashton as she tapped her friends window, indicating for him to roll it down. Ashton took a look at the guy behind the wheel, deciding that, after hearing his tone when he responded to the girl asking him politely for his lighter, that he didn't like him.

After the exchange, she made her way back over to Ashton, holding her hand out with the small black lighter in it.

"He doesn't seem so nice." Ashton muttered as he lit his cigarette as it hung between his lips. "Tell him thanks anyway." He smiled at her, handing her back the lighter.

"I will." She smiled at him, turning around to get into the car.

"I never got your name." Ashton raised his voice to she could hear him as he exhaled a cloud of smoke.

"Cassie." She smiled and waved at him as she slipped herself inside of the car. As the engine started up again, Ashton heard the boy behind the wheel's voice getting louder and ruder to Cassie. Ashton took harsher drags from his cigarette to calm himself down.
