Carl's POV
We were walking through the woods. Me and Enid. I know it's very dangerous outside the walls these days but we never cared. Actually I'm happy I've got a person like Enid. She's the only one who really understands me. And during the last several months we've become much closer. She's like a soul mate for me now. But she's not my girlfriend though I wish she was.
Why aren't we a couple? Well, first of all I don't know if she likes me back. If I express my true feelings for her and she doesn't feel the same then it'll ruin everything between us. Secondly, I've never said that to anyone, I mean I've never had such a deep crush on a girl the same age as me, - I don't know how to put my thoughts into words in this situation.
"Why do we always go here?" Enid asked after several silent minutes.
"Because we're kids" I said. "It's something they do"
She sighed, "We're not kids"
After that we kept walking in silence until I stumbled over a tree's root and fell down. I still haven't got used to the fact the right half of my sight is blank.
"Shit. Hope one day I'll get used to my missing eye", I said as I got up from the ground.
"C'mon, there's a stream nearby", Enid told me as she knew this place way better than me.
Finally we got there. The stream was small and shallow. I bent over above the water's surface to wash the dirt off my hands when suddenly I heard a splash of water and half of me got wet. Enid was giggling.
I smiled, "You shouldn't have done that", and with these words I washed her down.
She was surprised. "Your... your... asshole!" and laughing at the same time she washed me down back. That's how we spent the following 5 minutes - laughing and making both of us wet. Our clothes soaked with water. In the end, we just stood there breathless looking at each other. God, she's so gorgeous! Especially when wet. I looked at her cute face glittering with joy, at her sweet smile. I'm ready! I'll ask her to be my girlfriend right now! And I don't care if she doesn't feel the same!
"Enid, I need to tell you something. I... I-", but all of a sudden a walker's arm showed up from the bush beside me and grabbed my shoulder.
"Carl, watch out!" Enid screamed due to abruptness.
It tried to bite me but I held it tightly at the distance. With no hesitation Enid stabbed it in the head with her knife. It dropped down to the ground.
"You okay?" She asked worried.
"Yes, look!" I pointed at a herd of about 15-20 walkers not far from us, "They've heard your scream. Let's run home."
I grabbed her hand and we rushed together to Alexandria. When we were climbing over the walls my dad spotted us and came to us.
"Again? Carl, what have I told you two about sneaking out there alone?" He asked in angry tone.
"Please, don't blame him. It was my idea," Enid assured him.
He gave us both an angry look, then turned around and walked away.
"So what were you gonna tell me?" Enid asked me curiously. I looked around: Sasha was on watch and could easily observe us, plus, I was unprepared and couldn't come up with the words to say on spot.
"It's just... nevermind. See you later", I spun around and walked in the direction of my house saying all curses I knew under my breath.
