They were on their way to the stronghold, the guards on duty told my father, the leader of the clutch, they were coming in on all angles, there was no escaping the elemental mob. My father looked at me alarmed

"Son, I need you to go into sewage drains and find the escape exit, Sebastian, your guard, knows where it is located. Sebastian will go with you to see you are safe"

"But Sir I want to stay and fight!" I argued

"You cannot, Baron Vickridge." Sebastian contested.

"They will hang, burn, and crucify the people of Allanoth, I cannot afford to lose you in battle, I will try to reason with the elementals, but if I cannot, you are my heir, the next Duke, son, I need you to go with Sebastian, and run away as fast as you possibly can through the escape. Protect yourself, use your abilities." My father spoke firmly.

"But I am but a Baron!" I exclaimed.

"That's not what is important, the more you use your abilities the stronger you'll become, you are more powerful than I, you come from the blood of two vampires, not one like all the others." There was banging on the doors of the wall that kept the fortress safe. Guards were lined against the gates, and along top of the defense wall, most of the men along the wall were struck down by arrows through the hearts. "Hurry son," my father moved one of the drainage lids with telekinesis. Sebastian jumped into the sewer first, he assisted my 14 year old self down, before I could say good-bye to my father, the last bit of light that peered through the opening to the drainage, was gone.

T'was just Sebastian and I within' the sewer, "It's quite minging down here." I plugged my nose.

"I don't have a sense of smell" Sebastian commented.

"Well I suppose that benefits you in this situation."

"Here's a tip, don't breathe through your mouth"

"Well how am I supposed to breathe Sebastian."

"Your nose. Would you rather taste it or smell it?"

I sighed, I took Sebastian's advice and breathed through my nose, the smell wasn't as bad, but it was still quite bad.

As we made our way through the sewers we could hear the battling of those above, along with the slight echo of our legs sloshing through the water of the holds drainage, which was quite deep, yesterday's rainwater filled my tailored shoes and drenched my new pair of slacks. The smell was almost faded due to us marching through the fortresses water drainage and no longer the sewage.

The light to the exit of the drainage tunnel was bright. As if we had died and the light was our way to sanctuary.

"Baron Vickridge I mustn't go with you." Sebastian turned his head to me, "I must go back to fight."

"Sebastian that wasn't your orders! Your orders are to guide me to safety!" I argued.

"Baron you are to listen to me." Men talking could be heard from a distance down the pipes. These people could either be Vampires, or a small group of enemy elementals come to destroy me. "There's men coming, I need to go back"

"What if there's men on the other side!" I felt like crying, I knew I was either going to die, or be tortured until I died, I could still hear the battle going on.

"Blink, Master Vickridge, you can do it."

"Sebastian I can't blink far enough to escape!"

"Remember what the Duke said."

I shook my head, I had to use my abilities, my father said it would protect me, I was anxious about it, but I knew it was my best bet for survival. But I didn't want to go alone. "But I can't go alone!"

"Sometimes it's about what you need to do, not what you want to do." Sebastian withdrew his knife and signaled me to keep going.

I shook my head as I turned to run out of the drainage, it was challenging to balance, trudging through knee deep rainwater, out of panic, all my energy pooled to my core, and a sharp pain went through my body for but a second, I blinked had out of the tunnel. I took a breath and began to run.

I refused to open my eyes as I ran, the thought of Allanoth being attacked plagued my mind. I thought I may have outrun a group of infantry, but I was wrong. I was transfixed with pain as I fell to the ground. I lost my breath, my arm felt numb, I found to my surprise an arrow impaling my shoulder, and a pool of my own blood beneath me. I jerked my body upwards and blinked out of the area, not realising a second arrow had gone through my calf and pinned me to the ground. During my blink I felt the arrow tear through my calf. My thought at first was to play dead, lying there only made it harder to keep my eyes open as I drifted into an unwanted sleep..

The people of Allanoth are dead.
