"it took so long
just to be alright."After the yelling died down we finally went inside. Everyone looked at us like we were crazy probably because we were right behind them but didn't come up until the yelling came to a stop.
Shawn looked livid. He as still trying to pick a fight with my mother but eventually gave up. Sh gave him the silent treatment while pacing back and forth. I guess that my 'dad' was on his way over to talk to us which made Farkle even more nervous.
He showed up about ten minutes later. After finding out that Zack came to find us he zoomed through the busy city to try and patch things up between everyone.
The only two people who were confused were Lucas and Smackle. Although we told them the general idea of what was going on, it still was unclear as to who had what part in our lives. I didn't blame them though. In the time that it took Minkus to get here I questioned my whole childhood.
He came flying through the door without even knocking which wasn't unexpected. He always loved to make a dramatic entrance.
"Let's go." He grabbed Zack and Farkle's arm trying to rush them throgh the door. So much for trying to fix things between us.
"He, don;t touch them." I yelled. My volume seemed to shock everyone but Lucas and my dad who looked almost proud of me.
"Do not talk to your dad like that." My mother scolded.
I scoffed at her and yanked Minkus's arm off of my brothers. "He is not my dad." Both of the boys backed away from him rubbing their arms.
"Oh, but I am." He almost rolled his eyes. I returned the favor also rolling my eyes sarcastically before answering back.
"You are my father. His my dad." I pointed to my dad. "You may be blood but you will never be family."
Minkus smiled. "I am your family, whether you like it or not."
"Legally you are my biological father, not my dad. You don't deserve or me to call you dad." I smiled back mimicking his motions.
Mikus stepped farther into my apartment. "Oh, and your mother deserves to be called mom?"
"No. no she does not but at east she stayed to watch me grow up. She wasn't as much as a coward as you who were so concerned about protecting your name that you abandoned two of your children." I answered.
"Really, abandoned?" He laughed.
"Seems to fit what you did. After all you did ship Zack off to another state to hide your oh so precious secret."
"I paid for that expensive school, I don't think that it counts as abandoning him." He always had an answer for everything. Lucky for him, so did I.
"You paid for him to stay away. I could hardly call that good parenting." I remarked.
Mikus shook his head giving up having an argument with me. He instead turned to my father as if he expected him to agree on what he was saying.
My dad shook his head. "There is no way that you are getting out of this one." He turned to face both Mikus and my mother making sure that they understood him completely.
"I will not stand here and tell these three kids and their friends lies to justify your wrong doing. I may love you Topanga, but after all of this I don't know how anyone could be capable of loving a monster like you." My dad as close to tearing up but refrained from doing so. "Or him. Keeping a child away from its parents and lying to two kids their whole lives is not exactly what is on the cover of a parents magazine."
"You think that this was easy for me? To lie to everyone I have ever known?" My mom yelled. I could see Smackle get up and comfort Farkle who was almost in tears. Shawn was comforting Zack and Lucas was comforting me. No one was their for my dad. His whole life was a lie.
"Well you lied about it for how many years? You must be good at lying. Oh, and are there any other kids out there that you made during your secret affair." He questioned. At this point I just wanted to scream. Every little piece of my childhood was broken. It was like I didn't even know who I was anymore.
I stepped away from Lucas and in the middle of my parents who were two minutes from getting physical.
"Mom, I am not going anywhere. I am staying here with dad whether you like it or not." Minkus opened his mouth to speak but I shut him real quick. "And I swear to God if you give me one more speech about him not being my father I will call and email every single magazine and newspaper company in New York and make sure that your little mistake is printed in tomorrows new edition of articles."
"Excuse me?" He questioned. Now he was actually trying to be a good parent. Fifteen years to late for that.
"You're excused." I said angrily. I brushed past him and grabbed both of my brothers. Farkle and Smackle were having a discussion about my sanity not being in check. I only added feul to the fire by dragging Farkle away with no reason.
Zack and Shawn were talking about Shawn's past. I knew the whole story inside and out but I guess there were a few gruesome details that Shawn failed to mention about his deep and dark past.
Lucas and Smackle followed behind us probably wondering why in the world I was dragging everyone to my bay window.
I heard Mikus yell at me as I marched up the stairs. I turned around and found him and my mother with their arms crossed. I looked over to Shawn who was mouthing for me to escape from my bay window and meet him downstairs, something that I would gladly accept. My dad was telling me to run and that he would meet me downstairs. I guess having a little brother does come in handy, I was practically fluent in lip reading.
"Get back down here." Minkus demanded.
I laughed before looking him straight in the eye. "Go to hell." I said loud and clear before turning around and entering my room.
