Jail of Memories

A haunting melody follows

Soft, resounding footsteps

On the white, marble floor,

Seconded by the loudening drumroll

Of a tiny, fist-sized machine.

I am caged by your memory,

These invisible bars of sunlight

And walls of flaming sunset.

Even as time passes,

And each broken pieces

Of a thousand fragments

Mold into vivid visions,

Flashing from a flood of memories.

Pictures hang by figured wood frames,

Presenting smiles and joy.

They embed albums of time,

Lustrous images of torn destinies.

I trace my fingers over the silkiness,

Of the wondrous past.

Blood trickles down my finger,

As I’m pricked by the thorns.

In this cage, I struggle

I, with wakeful eyes, yearn to get free

From the chains of merciless destiny.

In this momentous time, I confess

Love revolves in a vicious cycle,

Tearful eyes cannot suffice

When dreams get broken

And wounds never mend.

An outreached hand fails to break the fall

In silence, I confide this contrition

In ripples of tears,

Of things that cannot be undone.

In this intricate puzzle

Left incomplete for eternity

I could never understand,

From the sins you’ve inflicted

Tell why I’m alive...
