Blackpink (Hangul: 블랙핑크), stylized as BLACKPINK or BLΛƆK PIИK, is a South Korean girl group formed in 2016 by YG Entertainment. The group consists of four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa.They are a multinational group, having members from South Korea, Australia, Thailand, and New Zealand.Pre-debut
On June 1, 2016, YG Entertainment began to reveal members of their upcoming girl group, starting from Jennie, who previously collaborated with artists of the same agency.On June 8, the second member was revealed to be Lisa, who was first introduced in 2012 and featured as a model for NONA9ON.
On June 15, they revealed the third member Jisoo, the oldest of the group, who modeled for various brands and appeared in several music videos and made a cameo appearance in KBS's The Producers. On June 22, Rosé was revealed to be the last member, who collaborated with G-Dragon in the song "Without You" in 2012.
Finally, on June 29, YG Entertainment uploaded group photos of the members and confirmed BLACKPINK as the name of their new four-member girl group.The agency confirmed that the debut would take place in late July, however, the debut was postponed to August 8.
2016: Debut with their first single album "Square One"
On July 29, 2016, YG Entertainment revealed an image confirming the group's debut on August 8 at 8pm. Later it was reported that their stage debut would be on August 14 on Inkigayo.
From August 3, individual teaser images of the group members were revealed, starting from Rose, along with new group images. On August 5, YG Entertainment released a promotional image that revealed the debut song title, "BOOMBAYAH".
"BOOMBAYAH" was produced by Teddy Park, and written by Teddy Park and Bekuh Boom. The music video was directed by Seo Hyun Seung who also directed "I Am the Best" by 2NE1 and "Fantastic Baby" by Big Bang.
The second title track to be announced was "Whistle", which was produced by Teddy Park and Future Bounce while the lyrics were written by Teddy Park and Bekuh Boom.
On August 8, a promotional image was released announcing the title of the first single album, Square One. A few hours later, at 2pm (KST), "BOOMBAYAH" and "Whistle" were released on V-app after the group's showcase. Both singles were officially released digitally via Korean music portals at 8pm (KST).
YG reported that Black Pink will not have a leader, because of how all the girls have been so close during training together. YG hopes to see the members make decisions as a group.

Kim Jisoo (Hangul: 김지수) was born January 3, 1995 in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to debut, she appeared in numerous commercial films (CFs), in particular Samsonite RED with actor Lee Min-ho and Smart Uniform with YG Entertainment's boy group iKON.She was also featured in her label-mates' music videos, such as Epik High's "Happen Ending" and Hi Suhyun's "I'm Different". In 2015, she had her first drama appearance in KBS's The Producers as a guest, together with her company seniors Sandara Park and Kang Seung-yoon.

Jennie Kim (Hangul: 김제니) was born on January 16, 1996 in Seoul, South Korea , and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Before debuting with Black Pink, she appeared in the music video for G-Dragon's "That XX", from his album One of a Kind. She was also featured in her label-mate's songs, such as Lee Hi's "Special", Seungri's "GG Be" and G-Dragon's "Black", where she sang and rapped.

Roseanne Park / Park Chaeyoung, or Rosé (Hangul: 박채영) was born on February 11, 1997 in Melbourne, Australia. She placed 1st at YG Audition in Australia and joined in 2012. She was featured on G-Dragon's song "Without You" before debuting with Black Pink, and was introduced as "? of YG New Girl Group" at the time.LISA
Lalice Manoban / Pranpriya Manoban, or Lisa (Thai: ปราณปริยา มโนบาล ) was born on March 27, 1997 in Bangkok, Thailand. She started dancing at a young age and was part of a Thai dance crew with Got7's Bambam, called 'We Zaa Cool'. She was the only person accepted into YG during the YG audition in Thailand in 2010.
