Chapter 1

Ugh... where am I?

Why does my head hurt so badly?

What happened?

Why is it so dark? Oh no... am I blind???? No... my visions just adjusting... everything's blurry...

I feel liquid running down my cheek... but I don't hear rain... is it sweat? no... im not hot... does that mean its blood?

My visions adjusted a bit more... I'm... wait... who am I?? Fuck. I can't remember anything... Scarlet... I think that's my name...

I'm in a forest... I don't remember any forests around... around where... where was I before this...

"Hello?" no answer. "Hello?" louder and still no answer. The forest surrounding me is black, I can't see anything because it's nighttime. But I see the moonlight streaming in through the treetops. It's probably about midnight right now. I try to look around hoping my eyes will adjust some more but it doesn't help. Now that I'm awake I can access myself. The liquid from my head is blood and most of it has crusted over now. i can't see my skin because it's too dark but I feel like I have a lot of bruises and cuts. Every part of my body hurts. I try to remember what happened but my mind is black just as black as the night.

I need to sleep maybe this headache will go away and when I wake I'll be able to see. I feel across the ground and look for somewhere to sleep. After a few minutes of searching I find a bush high enough off the ground for me to squeeze under, what's a few more cuts going to do to me. It doesn't take long before I go under. While I sleep I see flashes. Memories maybe... of what happened to me or who I am or was. Maybe just images of people I knew but I don't remember them when I wake.

The only thing I remember when I wake up is the pain. Only now it feels worse than before. I can't see anything but the bush I crawled under last night with rays of light streaming in from the cracks in the leaves and dancing at the bottom of the bush. The pounding in my head has died down some but the pain is still there. I crawl out and that takes some effort but when I finally get out I see that it's close to afternoon and all the birds and animals are out.

Oh man. I hadn't thought about the animals last night I'm lucky I'm alive. Well I guess I'm lucky to be alive all together because with this pain something bad must have happened for me to get here, but... where am I? I look up and can barely see the sky through the treetops but it looks like it's going to rain soon. I have to find shelter and some warmth. I'll probably have to sleep in a tree... or maybe I'll find a small cave... there are enough rocks I just hope I don't invade anything's home.

First I have to see how much damage has been done. I look down and for the first time I realize I'm naked. I can hardly see my skin because of how much dirt and, I think blood, is on me. I need to wash off so I can see why everything hurts so badly. I press different areas of my body to see if anything's broken... nothing seems to be broken, just extremely bruised and maybe fractured in some areas. I stand up which takes a while and I have to grab on to a tree near me for help. Looking around I don't see much but plants and trees so I have to rely on my ears. As I listen I hear birds chirping and a breeze blowing. I try to listen for the sound of water but I hear none.

I start to walk, grabbing onto whatever is in my path to help me walk. After what seems like days of walking I hear rushing of water. At first I think I imagine it but as I keep edging forward the rushing gets louder but it's never a strong rush just a soft one. After only a few more minutes even though I can't see through the brush I know I'm almost there. That knowledge gives me more hope and I begin walking faster almost forgetting the pain. I hadn't realized how thirsty I was. I push past another bush and suddenly I'm in a clearing and without thinking I half drag myself and half run into the water.

The water is only about four feet deep in the middle but that's more than enough. I'm only 5'1 so the water comes up a little past my nipples when I stand straight. I bend down to where I am completely under the water and run my fingers part way through my knotted hair trying to get the dirt out. When I come up for air I hear a twig snap.

Quickly I swim to the small waterfall and get inside of it. Behind the waterfall there is just enough room between the wall and the pouring water for me to hide. As I stand there huddled against the sharp stone I try to listen for the intruder but the sound of the pouring water is too loud so I rely on my eyes. That doesn't help much either considering I'm behind pouring water.but I find a spot where a rock above me splits the water just a bit.

I'm standing there for just a few moments before I see him. He's dressed in jeans and a red t-shirt with black boots on. He looks trustworthy so I start to move to ask him for help when I realize he has a gun in his hand. I shrink back against the sharp stones and gasp as one digs deep into a bruise in my side. He quickly turns toward where I am hiding and points the gun. But after a minute he puts it back down and mumbles something unintelligible.

After another short look around he turns and leaves not bothering to be quiet. I wait for a few more minutes after I can no longer hear his footsteps before the pain in my side is intolerable. Slowly and quietly I wade back to shore and assess my side. I cut the bruise open and it was bleeding but not to badly. Looking around I see a plant with big leaves so I walk to it a wrap one around my waist popping two holes in either end so I can tie a flimsy twig through them.

I press the leaf against my side, it's not much to stop the bleeding but it's something. It's about noon by now and I'm starving but I have to find a place to sleep first. I look around but the forest is too thick to see through so I start walking again. This time I set up a parameter around the water. Stumbling over just about everything in my path, i find a empty den almost an hour later.

The den isn't big but big enough to sleep in. Now I go and look for wood for a fire too keep warm and to scare off animals. I make multiple trips back the the cave carrying dead branches of all sizes. A few I found I had to carry one by one. While I'm out looking I find a tree with some reddish fruit on them that I don't remember. I grab a few hoping they're not poisonous.

Hey thanks for reading i apologize i know this chapter was really short and probably annoying to read :/ but the next one will be better and longer.. i started writing this over a year ago that's why i'm not adding on to this chapter i just got it to a point of change that way for the next one i have a new imagination. thanks for bearing with me.
