3 a.m and I'm ready to go. My bag is packed to the very top and my door is wide open. Just one step out that door and there's no turning back. "Im ready" I tell myself.
Starting off with a light jog I take in everything I've ever known one last time. I reach the shore of the beach I grew up on. It's completely deserted at this time. Knowing I'll probably never see this beach again makes my stomach churn. I have no reason to come back so why would I?
I breathe in and say my last goodbyes to so many memories of building towering sand castles and surfing turbulent waves but, as I'm about to turn away and continue my journey, I see something strange in the calm open ocean. A white wave. I've never seem something like this before. I'm fixated on how it moves closer and closer to the shore. Something tells me to go to it.
I drop my bag on the soft chilly sand and I slowly walk towards it. The wave isn't just white. There's something in it. Someone, actually.
I inch closer scared of what might happen. It's my uncle. But, my uncle has been gone for years now from a terrible surfing accident. He was never seen since. He opens his arms with a big smile and I run to hug him tightly.
With tears running down both of our faces he says in the same soft voice he always had "I hope you have a wonderful and safe journey, but please do come back soon". He fades away with the white wave and my tears dry from the sea salt breeze. I smile and continue on into the morning sunrise. "I promise, uncle".
