The first time she came to Taiwan, there were two. They were mates. And so cute. Hamster love is different from puppy love. Hamster love... is forever.
She left.
And came back, a few years later.
There were twenty of them now. Or more. She didn't know. Or care, frankly. But the hamsters knew. And the hamsters knew that overpopulation was a problem.
Or at least, one hamster did. One of the children did. The firstborn.
He always wanted attention. Attention that had to be split twenty times between two parents. Attention from all of his siblings, and nephews and nieces. His siblings married each other. His brother married his niece. The hamster world is a desperate one.
Everyone is desperate for love.
Everyone is desperate for attention.
So he was left unnoticed.
He never attracted a mate. He only wanted one hamster to be his mate. And that was Charlene. But she had a mate already.
His father.
So he plotted.
He plotted to kill.
He plotted in silence, ignored by all other hamsters, and certain that, in the end, he would have Charlene. He would definitely have Charlene.
