There's a monster under my bed.
By Reddit User: UshnuuThe first time I heard it I thought I was imagining things. I told my parents the next morning but my mother merely laughed it off and my father just shook his head, obviously ashamed that I still believed in monsters.
But then I heard it again, and this time I was sure I wasn't imagining things. The monster tried to be quiet, but it couldn't help itself. It groaned and grunted, alerting me to its presence. I lay stone-cold in my bed, eyes shut tightly, praying that I would fall asleep before I had to hear anymore monster noises. My prayers went un-answered, however, and the monster has been under my bed now for a whole month.
Sometimes the monster will peer at me through the darkness of the bedroom, checking to see if I'm awake. I just lie there, eyes closed, heart pounding in my chest, feigning sleep. It's never done anything to me when it thinks I'm asleep, and I don't want to imagine what would happen if it caught me while I was awake.
I lay silent and still, listening to the groaning and the whimpering below me each night, knowing the monster is down there and knowing there is nothing I can do about it. I only open my eyes when the noises cease and I can hear the creaking of the floorboard.
Then I peek open to watch as the monster crosses the room, slinking out the door and down the hallway. And then all I can hear is my little sister on the bunk below me, weeping softly into her pillow.
