The Entering. A horrible name for an even worse event.

The entering happened when I was sitting in chemistry and we were mixing substances that I don't remember the name of. I don't even remember my lab partners name. That's the least of my worries.

I go day by day wondering if I'm going to die in my sleep or if I'm going to be able to actually catch a rabbit for dinner. I know, its horrible. This whole apocalypse scenario has turned every living human back in time to the days of the cavemen.

Now we are all scavengers and hunters. I haven't had contact with any other living thing besides animals in three months. It has made me go almost crazy.

Anyway, back to The Entering. We were sitting in Chemistry and we heard a loud beeping sound coming from outside.  Naturally, us being humans, we all ran to the window. Nothing was there.  Except for a small silver box on the window sill. Ben, one of the guys in my class, reached out the window and picked it up.

In a flash of bright white light, he was gone.  And in the spot where he was standing, sat the silver box. Everyone became silent and we were able to hear his screams coming from the box and a mechanical whirring.  Soon, the screaming stopped right after the noise that sounded like a saw coming in contact with metal.

Everyone started screaming and running around in complete chaos. I stood in front of the silver box and watched it in shock. My legs felt like rocks and I couldn't move them. I couldnt move my body at all. I later realized that I was paralyzed in fear.

The silver box rolled up the wall and out the window as I watched. It kept rolling until it got to the middle of the playground and in another flash of burning white light, it was gone.

I was no longer paralyzed with fear. I was still scared, but not enough to be running around like idiots like my classmates. Instead, I ran out the door.  All in the hallways I saw chaos.

People were screaming and running around, they were tripping and pushing each other. I guess that the silver box in  my classroom wasn't the only one.  I stopped and looked around at my surroundings.  I sighed and started running again. I weaved around people and tried not to fall.

I ran out the front door of the school, the door slamming behind me. I bounded down the steps, my old white tennis shoes hitting the cracked pavement and making no sound at all. While adults were running towards the school to get their kids,I was running to my house to get my parents.

My feet pounded the cracked pavement as I made my way home. I didn't live far, but with the situation it seemed to take me hours to get home. I turned the corner onto my street, silver boxes lay all over the street. I hadn't realized how fast my heart was beating and that I was sweating so much that my jeans and tshirt were stuck to my body. I ran faster, my legs aching but my heart aching more from the thought of my parents taken by the alien cubes.

The distance between me and my small town house seemed to become farther instead of closer. But, I knew that it was my brain toying with my senses. I finally arrived on my front steps and burst through the door.

"Mom! Dad! James! Cindy!" I yelled out while running around the house looking for my family. I turned the corner into my parents room and found Cindy and James huddled in the closet crying.

I bent down in front of my two younger siblings. "They're gone aren't they?" I asked softly, trying to fight back the tears and  the urge to break down right then and there. Cindy nodded and that was exactly what I did. I huddled up to my knees and cried.

What made it worse was that just this morning I had told my mom that I hated her since she wouldn't let me wear my jeans. I started laughing hysterically and my brother and sister looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I was.

I finally calmed down and picked up James and ruffled his brown curly hair. He looked so innocent, he had no idea that he would never see his parents again. I grabbed Cindys hand. "C'mon guys. We are gonna go see Mamaw."

I smiled softly and walked out of the bedroom, Cindys bare feet made a pat pat sound on the hard wood flooring. We walked out of the house and all of the silver boxes that were out here are now gone. I got in the car, hoping it would start and set them both in carseats. I pulled out of the driveway and drove to my grandmas house that wasn't very far.

I sighed as I pulled into the driveway, hoping that she would be home. I got my two siblings out of the car and walked up to the door. I rang the doorbell and listened to the tone ring throughout the house.

A woman with a mop of white curls on top of her head and a light pink nightie on opened the door. I smiled softly and we hugged. I explained to her what had happened and asked her to watch Cindy and James. She promised me to take care of her and that was the last I saw of them.
