The mechanism around Kaworu's neck started whirring and spinning. The neckpiece he was wearing developed into some kind of spiky contraption. The thick glass between the two was the only thing stopping Shinji from trying to tear it off— The silver haired boy exposed a sad smile, he knew what was happening— Shinji screamed — he couldn't do anything— the spikes punctured his neck— crimson splattered on the glass his face was pressed up against—
I sat up, causing my head to spin. My shirt was stuck to my back, drenched in a cold sweat- what happened just then had felt so real, as if it was another life. I looked below me to my side. The silver hair I knew was glinting in the blue moonlight. "Kaworu, wake up," I whispered frantically. I shook him more than gently. He groaned as his tired eyes opened, slowly focusing on my distressed face. My eyes started to sting and my bottom lip quivered. I was relieved.
Somehow, I was scared he wouldn't wake up. I was scared I wouldn't see his comforting smile again. He realised I was upset, and quickly sat up. He put his large hand to rest on the back of my head and pulled my face to his collarbone. "Was it another nightmare?" He gently asked me. I let out a 'mhm' as he cradled me. He smelt of sweet lavender. After a while he laid me back down. My tears had dried up, but my pillow was still considerably wet.
He softly stroked my hair, as he knew it calmed me down. His gentle touch soothed me. I asked him to stay awake until I fell asleep- a selfish request, I know- but him staying with me would stop it from happening again. My eyes slowly closed, his sparkling red eyes being the last thing I saw before I drifted back to sleep.
