Nagisa's POV

I stared at the dark wood of the Nakamuras' front door. Beside me, Karma shifted before reaching across me to turn the knob and let it swing open.

The quiet of the night was dispelled by the increasing noise of the pounding bass in the music blasting from the house.

I blinked in surprise at the flashing lights, which made me see spots. Rio had gone all out.

Karma grabbed my wrist, causing me to jump from my light-induced trance. His skin was warm on mine. He dragged me into the house, pausing as I stumbled over the hidden step in the front. Then he pulled me closer to him, making my breath hitch.

I could smell him; a sharp, minty scent. Inhaling made me feel faint.

Karma ran his other hand through his red hair, smiling faintly. His black t-shirt stretched tight over his chest, I observed, as he stuffed his free hand into the pocket of his black jeans. Compared to my over-sized sweater and jeans, he would make anyone feel faint.

He glanced down at me and smirked, before heading through the empty hallway towards the source of the pounding music.

We entered what must have been the Nakamuras' living room, with only 20-ish teenagers dotting the room. I was surprised by the lack of party-goers.

A long table was set up to one side, on which were huge platters of snack food and a large punch bowl. A few of the guests stood around the table, serving themselves. On the other side of the room were two loveseats and an armchair. A couple was intensely making out on the armchair. In the center was a circle of giggly girls. They were playing some kind of drinking game, but with punch. Carpeted stairs led up into darkness opposite the food table.

I found my gaze drawn back to the couple on the chair. There was an intesity between them that made me feel... Hungry. It wasn't getting out of hand; their mouths moved together, the guy pressing the girl between himself and the chair. The girl's hands slid up and down his back, gripping at his shirt. The feeling between them was strong, it was in the air, pulsing in a rainbow of colors.

"Hey, Nagisa," Karma's voice snapped me out of my trance, and I shot my gaze to him. He smiled at me and gripped my wrist tighter, gently tugging me towards Rio, who was hurrying towards us from the group of girls.

"Karmy!" She cried, throwing herself into Karma's arms. A twinge of jealousy ran through me as he released my wrist to wrap his arms around her.

"Hey, Rio. Nice party." I yell-said with a slight smile. It was hard to hear over the sudden bass drop in the music.

"Nakamura, Nagisa. Call me Nakamura." She yell-said stiffly to me, before becoming a giggly mess at something Karma said into her ear.

I felt my throat close up looking at them; Karma was my only friend. I wanted to keep him.

At least that's what I told myself.

Karma was staring me, golden optics pinning me on the spot. "You okay?" His voice was soft, loud enough only I could hear it over the music, as Rio had bounced off to her friends. "You look like you've seen a ghost."
